Maybe I know what people want.
    ORIGINALITY

Which is not obtainable by merging many worlds into one with different characters.

    Personal feeling
Personally? I don't like this idea.

    Argument supporting my feeling
I don't want to see a world with many characters from different Final Fantasies, because that would ruin its originality, and surely recycling the same things to put in another white paper isn't going to appeal to Final Fantasy fans. They liked Final Fantasy for how unique, dramatic the story is, for the originality put into creating monsters and characters. Think about a Final Fantasy: The Unending Journey book, where all the Final Fantasy games, from 1 to 14 can be written inside, so people can read them. Now that's what I would like to see.

    PROs
    • It will teach me the characters of the older Final Fantasy games, who they are all those things.
    • For older Final Fantasy players it will be a good hit of nostalgia.
    CONs
    • Unoriginal, unlikely of Final Fantasy.
    • Many worlds in one would mean many storylines, would mean many roads to take and to think as a development team, would mean creating an RPG Dissidia style, which wasn't that acclaimed from what I got.
    • Would not even have sense, unless you put something like a World Transfer machine that Cid creates and put characters in it, transferring them into this new world, pretty lame idea if you ask me.
    Conclusions
The idea can be done, but I have my doubts the Final Fantasy fans will like it, and from my point of view, because of its unoriginality it would teach the new players all the good things of Final Fantasy in the worst way possible. If a new player wants to learn about Final Fantasy, it'd better play the previous titles.

So many people talk about needing original content, but the "original" content in XIV is just a lot of recycled material with new lore. If they were cranking out QUALITY new content (as myself and many, many others don't think they are) I would be less enticed by this idea. As it stands now I'd rather replay the old stuff. Even as a replay I can feel the originality and creativity in the old games.... XIV lacks that.

I'm not sure that a merger of all old FF games into an MMO would work out well, but it could be because I lack the creativity to imagine a story to tie it all together. If they could find a semi-reasonable premise to merge the worlds I would jump all over it. I got/played FFXIII-2 to take a break from XIV.... I enjoyed FFXIII-2 more than current XIV... that is a sad statement, don't you think?

    I get it...

An multi dimensional story line including epic sagas with legendary characters from previous ff titles involving memorable villains and unforgetable weapons ...

    It could work...

Final fantasy gamers are the worst. they like mind blowingly boring long crazy tasks and never want to have a new idea.

First off the new elder scrolls MMO is doing something like this. You will be able to visit places in morrowind, oblivion, and skyrim. thats an awesome idea. thats total fan service.

To make a long story short more FF fans are asking for a FF7 remake then a new FF15.... to somehow combine all the great games in one MMO is fantasic.

    to OP GREAT idea.

THERES AN ELDER SCROLLS MMO ANNOUNCED WHERE?! and that is not total fan service since all of those places are in the same world on the same continent.. each game mentions the other places oblivion talked about skyrim and morrowind, morrowind talked about the others and so on, ever since daggerfall(didn't play arena) the other places were mentioned... so it being in same world while final fantasy games are not. so your point is moot

so of course you would be able to visit them all in an MMO.... OMG IM SO EXCITED IF AN MMO WAS ANNOUNCED. no time to look for it now I have to go can you link?

Again people taking your words and twisting it.

Is it a little different in final fantasy because the worlds are different? does EVERYONE and their momma know excatly what the elder scrolls series is about? did you just waste your time?

the answer to all these questions is yes.

We know they are part of the same story but thats moot.
My point which is not even remotely moot is that they are putting places from different games into one game. thats total fan service. i would love to visit midgar, from ff7 then Zanarkand from ff10. how they do it is up to them.

I mean this is the same company that gave us a "portal" to a place where we were walking on the sky and another portal to a place where we walked onthe sea and had fish pop out from underneth us and attack (FF11 for all of you who did not play it). this would not be crazy if you really thing about it.

I'd entirely support some references to past FF's but I'd much rather have an original universe than a cobbled-together crossover. Dissidia already did that and even Kingdom Hearts to an extent.

However, In most of the Tales series of games, there's a colosseum where you can fight main characters of previous Tales games. There's no forced narrative or anything, they're just there and it's all good fun. Something like that in FFXIV would be badass in my opinion, going up against Cloud, Cecil, Squall, Kefka etc.

Er why do you even bring TES Online here? It is very different, all the names are Regions that belong to the same continent (Hint, there is another continent and there are more than one World that the game very barely mention). If Bethesda ever put Fallout and TES into one MMO, then maybe we can talk.

And you are crazy if you say those regions belong to different games. Do you even know where do the Red Guard, Breton or Khajiit come from? Duh, all of them except the Orc has appeared in all TES. Orc is the only exception that they re-rise to civilisation during Daggerfall event.

Well, i must say i agree with the OP. I actually posted about this last month (i think) at my blog here (here because is FF-related, not at forum because it's not FFXIV-related) and i do find using an MMO as a compilation of the serie a very good idea...as soon as you have a base generic enough to adapt and adjust to every version's mechanics.

Also, just because you're using a certain background doesn't mean you need the very same story. People here used Dissidia as crossover reference...i'd actually use Super Robot Wars as it. SRW serie is a pretty nice example of how you can put several stories together w/o actually losing quality.

EDIT: However, you must keep in mind that it would never be part of the main serie. Obviously that a MMO meant to be a spin-off of every other FF sould be out of the main serie.
