THis is not a good argument. WHy wont it work? WHo says they have to meet? WHY WHY WHY WHY? Can it be done? Why not? How could it be done?
Let me take that and ask you back. Can you come up with an original coherent story with all the FFs you mentioned that won't make anyone go /facepalm?
-> Dimensional portals have been overused. Besides Dissidia itself uses a variant of it.
-> Spaceships. Maybe looking at Dalamud, but we're not playing Eve Online here.

    Ronso (Original)
    Moogle
    Viera
    Moogles
    Red XIII's Species
Reusing races is fine by me, but that's not all you said to reuse in your OP.

And you forgot the one central ethos common to ALL FF with a different number.
It is always set in a different original world, with different races (even if they share the same name) and different characters.

    -------------------
Like I said, I certainly don't mind references, cameos, Easter Eggs from previous games.
I mean if I see a clown called Kefka juggling in the middle of Uldah, I'll give him a smile.

Close mindedness again. Sure I could give me time. But is it my job. The question is can it be done? Its what if it is done? All you are doing is arguing against something that could be made well. Does there have to be an explanation why all the worlds come together?

Be creative. What if you just make it like a book with chapters. Why not cut them off from eachother and have different scenarios? Why does it all have to be intertwined? What you are doing is using other games as benchmarks, what I am doing is thinking this could work and be original.

Also who cares if a "Bangaa is in the FF1 universe or VII's or VI's"

And you cant argue cost because you dont have numbers and resources devs would have. How can you determine SE budget? It could cost a lot but then it could be cheap. Its not like they would have to do concept art on midgar, or ronsos they already know what they look like.

Because not doing so no longer makes it a single MMO. That is a just jumble of single-player games stringed together in a haphazard jigsaw which most fans would rather go get the original game to play.
How do you transfer your character from one world to the next?
How do you transfer your equipment from one world to the next?
In your own words, how do you flip the chapter from one to the other? Do people want a book of short stories (as you suggested) where each story is independent of the other? Or do people want an epic Lord of the Rings title where you go from saving the world from one villain to the next?

Translate it to MMO style, do people want to start from lvl 1 and level to cap from one story to the next? If they don't need to, why?
"I am the super hero who just saved Ivalice" -> Paradrop (in some way) into Eorzea -> one-shot the vans.
    Is that fun?

All of us here have attachment to our characters in one way or another. Character resets and restrictions (Looking at you, lvl cap in ffxi) in whatever form will turn people away. That leaves the other way -> Transfer the characters from one world to the next intact. How is it possible to do this implementing some form of a coherent story?

Close minded my foot. I think the one most close minded here is you OP - For simply refusing to listening to the fact that most of the people who answered your thread gave you the thumbs down.

I was not closed minded. I gave reasons it shouldnt happen. I dont care if you thumbs down me that crap means absolutely nothing to me. If I gave up everytime someone disagreed with me I would get no where in life. I created this post to get ideas and provoke curiosity and what i got was plain out uncreative pessimistic garbage.

So far no one has answered my question.
If done right and all your concerns were quelled would you support the game?

This sounds a lot like kingdom hearts, except without FF worlds instead of Disney worlds...

I'm sorry but... a culmination of FF worlds doesn't seem like it would be a good tactic. Each world has a special art style and back story tied to it, mashing them together will seem like a cheap exploit of characters we've grown to love. Personally my favorite art style is of FF9, I loved the humor in the story. I'd hate to see some random figure or experience some forced plot combination using this world. I think what keeps fans coming back to the series is the fact that it is always different, the series doesn't become stale, and it's one epic story after another. I would like to see some added content for some games, which is now possible today and SE really needs to get on that for their next rpg's.

However...I do find the recent FF's pretty linear, I would like a more "open" world whether they go to open world map or not. I like running around the world and finding random spots that were in no way tied to the story.

To have a MMO based on stories of the Main series of Final Fantasy is horrible.

If you take stories of a Main title and make it a story in the mmo there is no surprises. We played them all we know the bosses, the twist , OMG did you see that moments. We know the story. You would also be taking away from the characters of that world. in a MMO your the hero as in your created character which means the main heroes of that final fantasy would be gimped.

Your getting in to a bad territory of even crossing final fantasy games with other final fantasy games.

One may like 7 while the others may like 12.

And who really wants to see a Spirits Within story line.

Also talking about how the races are generic. There the same as 11 just reskinned and different lore behind them.

You can also argue the FF1 had elves and FF1 and 4 had dwarves which were smart little people ( I think they were smart in 4). We have materia (it doesn't work like it did in 7) and magitech mounts are coming sometime in the future ( just like the ones Terra, Biggs and Wedge ride in 6) so they are already kind of pulling past final fantasies in.

Your idea works better for a time traveling Crono mmo then it does a final fantasy were no story ever corresponds with other unless there is the number 2 beside the roman numerals.

I HATE when they put characters together from independent worlds, it's difficult for me to swallow the Avengers concept, the Justice League, and any other fictional IP.

I didn't even like any of the FF sequels, so I wouldn't buy a FF multi-verse game based solely off of what I know.

Didn't Yoshi-P mention something about iconic towns/cities/castles etc from past games possibly making an appearance in some form?
Hell, the series already has a mechanic in place that would allow this: the void. That's how Gilgamesh gets around.

Not saying I'm in support of this, but it's technically "possible" from a series standpoint.

Indeed, but Yoshida could be referring to something like what they are doing with the Crystal Tower. It was in FFIII and they are implementing something of the sort in FFXIV. Gilgamesh is also known for travelling the void, so I wouldn't have a problem with this.

But the idea of starting in...say...Balamb Garden then walking to Midgar so you can hop an airship to Baron is just plain stupid.
