I disagree. A tank's job is to not die, it's a subtle but important difference, it's the healer's job to keep people alive (tank included).
WAR being an outlier, there is a serious problem in the balance of content, healers and tanks: "Normal" content doesn't do nearly enough damage for the amount of sustain tanks have, this I have come to consider is actually the biggest of the issues, and is fixable simply by upping the amount of damage that enemies in general (but especially bosses) do. Bosses (dungeon, trial and raid) also do damage conveniently in time with big cooldowns which on the one hand makes it easier to heal but on the other hand means that usually a healer (blue or green) can ignore the damage completely because innate regen will take care of it, failing that you just press a big button and heal the lot off next time a raidwide goes out. In other words: In a party of halfway competent people healing is at best a waste of a GCD.
Then we come to tanks, who not only have the tools to not die (per their role) but to actively heal themselves - which is the healer's job, it's there in the title. Now, I'm not saying healing can't be mitigation - it can and I like the idea, but tanks at this point do not have healing as mitigation they have healing as restoration and it's not in isolated cases (such as clemency and living dead, both of which I approve of) but as part of PLD's standard rotation is 1600 potency (that's TWO cure 2s) in it's blade combo. WAR has Bloodwhetting/Nascent Flash; 400x3 potency in isolation isn't so offensive but these cooldowns are not just 1200 potency, they're 1200 potency times the number of enemies hit by those three GCDs and they're multiplicable by WAR's multiple healing buffs and to make it worse, such a massive effect has a mere 25s cooldown. No job, much less a tank, should have what routinely functions as a benediction every 25 seconds, that's hatter levels of madness.
To those who would say "But you can run content without tanks or with only dps", yes you can but that doesn't make it right. That just shines more light on the fact that content in this game has such glaring balance issues that need to be fixed.
