Almost a week of constant DDoSing? Some compensation please!

We've been experiencing DDoS attacks like this since 6.58.

We have had DDoS attacks for most of the last 10 years. I'm not joking. I was playing then and they have always come up every now and again.

Yeah it's impossible to really commit to any kind of longterm activity as things are now. I'm hesitant to even get a group together because I know we're just gonna get d/ced in the middle of whatever it is. The random nature of these things, the period of time for which it's been allowed to continue, and the somewhat blasé response (like we should all just be used to this by now, and they're definitely doing their best to look into it this time) is frankly unacceptable for a game that charges a subscription fee. If it were my game, I'd give out a week of free subtime at least, and I'm saying that as someone whose sub is just gonna autorenew regardless. It's more a sign that they give a shit, really. Like, it's embarrassing to have a game that's basically your company cash cow, but you let it get predictably steamrolled like clockwork by some fatass in a basement every time a new public update drops, and it's so frequent and so predictable that even your own players are just used to it and some even began making third party tools to mitigate the crash-to-desktop problem.

idk man. I've played private servers for other mmos where when they were being ddosed, the ragtag team funded by donations managed to mitigate things and communicate with their players better than this.

honestly that makes this whole thing worse, but what i'm referring to is the frequency since 6.58. I don't doubt that DDoS attacks have been happening since the very beginning because that's just the nature of live service games.

I think they haven't done anything yet because it will most likely be taken care of in the 7.38 patch this week.

I actually was wondering about it. It's usually only awful during expansion launches as bad parties DDOS on top of the influx of players. But I saw a theory that it may not be FFXIV but another service hosted at the same facility that is being targeted, so I don't know.

Either way, how much of it can SE do to alleviate it? Wouldn't it be more a problem of the company hosting FFXIV NA servers? If so, then SE may need to move us all again to another host by 8.0.

See I thought this too. Cause people were saying that ESO and GW 2 were being DDOSed at the same time. However, when I went to check on them, they were all doing just fine. So someone out there is clearly mad at FF XIV.

Yeah, there is a theory that some nefarious party is attacking all of the big MMOs right now because of the new premium currency drama happening to WoW as a protest.

It just seems bizarre that the other MMOs are being attacked, and I guess it's a thing?

I used to think "maybe it's WoW players" or something when the WoW refugee thing started to become big in Stormblood/Shadowbringers, but after 10 years it can't possibly be anything like that. No one would keep it up for that long unless FFXIV was just being caught in the crossfire of a generalized attack on a location that hosts lots of big company servers as a way to, I assume, take down big corps or something.

Joining in here. It's ridiculous. Not even a mention of it on the lodestone either, it's like they've given up since Nov 4.

This is Square's responsibility at this point.

I get it, DDoS happen. but I've never seen anything quite this bad in an era. Mind you they aren't supposed to be defenseless against DDoS. Everybody gets DDoS'ed but not everybody is down 20 times a day. Where's the service security?
If Square can't fix their servers soon, then it's time to break out the Cloud Servers!

That's asking a lot of SE. Here is a company who, in their infinite wisdom, disabled a character tracking app by using rot13 cipher. I mean, you can't get any lazier than that when it comes down to it. Bare, minimal effort. Except of course, the SE Store and Online stores, respectively with their prices of items they sell. :eyeroll:
