It was MIND BLMs. Mind used to raise the MP pool (and Piety the charge rate). Generally a couple to a handful of melds required in HW to reach specific MP cap or margins notably for species that had low starting MND (like highlanders) so they could cast 6x F4 in Astral. And more for margins so you wouldn't end up dry of MP unable to cast anything to swap to Ice.

The reason why I was wondering if BLMs could boost piety with leveling is because I had the impression piety wasn't a primary stat, since I remember needing to meld piety as a BLM in HW. IIRC the stats you could spend your 30/35 points on were STR/DEX/INT/MND/VIT, but I need to find a source on it again.

Ye Olde Cleric Stance really showcases this, since it swapped the primary heal stat with the primary magic DPS stat.

You used to be able to meld main stats in HW. As tanks, we used to meld Strength on our Vit accessories, or Vit onto Strength accessories, as they both contributed to out damage output.

Yes, but I'm referring to the old attribute point system. You got 30 points you could spend in something from 1-50, and a further 5? from 51-60. And I think only primary stats could be raised, which Piety was not one. The system was actually awful because every class just put it into STR/DEX/INT/MND and SMN/SCG had to constantly respec if they swapped between the 2 jobs because of the nature of those stats back then. But I'm just trying to remember if piety could be spent on it or not, and I think the answer was no because piety was not a primary stat.

Yes, Piety used to be a main stat, just like Strength, Dexterity, Vitality, Mind and Intelligence and you could add your level up points to it.

You're right it was piety melds. 284 recommended for BLM, 310 for tryharders with exotic builds for 7-5 F4s in astral instead of 6-4.
