Yes I forgot about that part, I would have a lot more total points if they were synergized.
The problem is a fundamental disagreement on what a video game is. Many people, possibly billions, believe that video games exist to have fun. There is something they need to do and a challenge with some effort. The issue with CBU3 is they don’t have a good track record of making video games. The Dawntrail MSQ, for instance, can hardly be called a video game much like a visual novel isn’t a game either. Crafting in FFXIV exists in two phases: the easy macro-spam phase, which has no gameplay, and the expert crafting, which is the same but requires 20,000,000+ gil. Crafting can hardly be called video game content because, unlike combat, botting isn’t simply a cheat, it’s baked in to the design. You press a macro button and it works. Then you press it again. There are websites that will design your macro for you. The only challenge is obtaining the gil necessary for a fully-geared setup. But the crafting portion of Cosmic Exploration itself, outside of that investment, is not video game content.
I think there’s a little part of us that like and miss playing video games. It’s unfortunate that the opinions of video game-enjoyers are shunned in the FFXIV community with this new patch.
Thank you for answering me. I personally don't think having harder stuff to do while there is still stuff available to casual players is unfriendly to casual players, but opinions obviously differ. The missions shouldn't be impossible without materia, it should be harder but not impossible (this is casual after all and telling players to just do the lower tier stuff is NOT the answer it's suppose to be casual).
The ranking system is gate keeping casual players from even attempting to qualify.
As for the it shouldn't take weeks this I am specifically referring to leveling your relic tools it's not like they are better than Penta crafted tools and are completely useless outside of CE anyways so making it harder for a casual to even benefit from the tool if they are already level 100 before they even get into CE or in between 50 and 90 having no missions for those levels like firmament had.
I did shove random materia in my scrip crafter gear so can't speak to that...but...as an actual exceptionally casual crafter, the finished tool (should I bother to get it, since my scrip tool serves my casual crafting needs perfectly well) will be more than sufficient since I won't be pentamelding a different one ever anyway. I'll let you know how long it takes me to make it, should I bother doing so...I might, just because the research bonus will make the botanist axe less miserable to get with the forced GP regen downtime, and I actually would use the botanist tool with some frequency.
IMO, if a tool took a week and a half to level (which would be roughly three times how long it took me to make my fishing pole), I, as a very casual crafter, would never do it, no matter how easy it was to do.
This is almost certainly why I actually kind of like fishing but can't stand crafting in FFXIV. The CE fishing quests are at least somewhat engaging mini-puzzles, even when I didn't manage to figure out the trick to all of them.Crafting in FFXIV exists in two phases: the easy macro-spam phase, which has no gameplay, and the expert crafting, which is the same but requires 20,000,000+ gil. Expert crafting is actually a minigame, not “botting but with slightly higher stats”The problem is a fundamental disagreement on what a video game is. If you look at expert crafting and only see a “well i can macro that but only when i get next expansions gear” you can’t claim that it’s not content because you are actively not engaging with it. Pentamelding current gear won’t let you properly macro all the experts
As a healer main in this game for nigh on 14 years all I can say is that I’m tired. My role has been eroded of complexity and expression for 3 expansions. I’ve watched the tanks do my role for me for 2 expansions and my feedback and critiques continue to fall on deaf ears.
I have no idea who modern healers are designed for but I know now it’s not me. This is the first expansion I’m truly considering dropping the healer role and not returning, so if that was the goal- congratulations I guess

IMO this applies in spades to the missions that lead to the CE stage increase. It's kinda fun when the base expands, but the final mission getting there is some of the worst gameplay I've seen in any MMO.
So.... I guess this boils down to people disliking crafter relic requiring expert crafting despite it being the norm since its intro back in ShB? Are people wishing for another "Manderville Relic"-treatment here, too?

Wish people would stop parroting that you need pentamelds to complete a relic because you really, really don't.
I just found out that you can fail the phase upgrade and it completely screws you and you get nothing in fates or red alerts for 8 hours. That's SOOOOO casual friendly
Even if it did require pentamelding they have made pentamelding so much more accessible recently
Do you want 11 and 12 materia? Set a retainer to collect the animal part of the collectible and just go from there. You can also buy them with cosmocredits
Do you want lower filler materia? Island sanctuary prints them like nobody’s business and requires like 5 minutes of your time per week
Put 12’s in the first 2 slots, 11’s in the third slot and 9’s in the 4th and 5th slot, you’ll soar over the breakpoints for little effort, just a bit of weekly maintenance
