So if I had any friends to which I talk about MMOs, I would tell them that the Trials and Raids in FF14 are an overdesigned mess with counter-intuitive and incomprehensible mechanics.
For the record: I like challenging games, I just recently dug out Doom Eternal, and played through on nightmare difficulty a couple of times. It's a hard game, but at least I understand what's about to happen - without memorizing 2 dozen different boss emotes that determine where the big AE will strike some 30 seconds later. A tough fight? I'd rather call them overly annoying, nothing else.
14’s fights are (if nothing else) visually easy to solve in the normal version. You don’t have to memorise anything because what the boss is doing aligns with how to solve the mechanic

This sounds a lot like the “the boss was casting left arm cleave for 10 seconds but the AOE marker only flashed for a split second, how should I know not to stand on the left side”
