To me 14’s fights are (if nothing else) visually easy to solve in the normal version.

I'm trying to figure out how the insertion of "functionally" in the base sentence changes it from false to true.

I imagine it is there to serve that role?

Interesting. That's not my experience at all, but that may reflect my poor eyesight. When I was leveling jobs I stopped using leveling roulette around the mid-70s because I simply couldn't remember the details of the dungeons.

Similarly in DT I did M1N, then looked at a guide for M2N and concluded it was almost entirely an exercise in remembering what all the markers meant and where one had to stand.

I started playing wow's free trial a few days ago and it made me consider buying it

the job design feels more complex and intresting at level 12 compared to max level so I don't even know why I'm sticking with ff14 at this rate other then liking it better visually.

That's the thing. I could never get past WoW's cartoonish style.
