And do you think it's sensible of SE to sell someone an expansion, then provide no mechanism for them to access the majority of it if they get stuck on this quest?

How is it any different than someone not beating a story boss in any other game? "Very easy" already exists. Not much more they can do about it.

Also, this is an MMO. Regular skill checks before you head out and do more content with other people is incredibly considerate and should happen more often.

You can pick any thread of people complaining that something is too hard and you'll find plenty of helpful comments and questions, the majority of which remains either unanswered by OP or met with constant excuses as to why they can't/won't do whatever it is they're being suggested to do.
