I would be inclined to agree with their stance, but really with some of the posts created by whom this references, it's veering into a 'Reap what you sow' situation. Most employees aren't doing to insinuate the same things that were insinuated in certain tweets.

I don't condone it by any stretch of the imagination, but if you create inflammatory remarks then people are sure to follow with an inflammatory response.

and yes, I am referring to that specific tweet on the 'Smile' OST.

As for the more serious avenues of harassment, like threats and the such... Yeah, that's unhinged and unwarranted in any capacity.

Well. Idk why we're lol'ing. People who do this crap to other people absolutely should get consequences, if not hit with the book. There's a difference between constructive/fair criticism and just railing over and over on an actor you don't like, to the point of trying to make their life worse.

Saying dumb opinions or calling people bigots (EVEN IF YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY IN THE WRONG! EVEN IF YOU WERE RUDE ABOUT IT!) does not justify harrassing the dummy to the point of legal issue.

I can't work out what the surprise is.
Yes, you can take legal action when you threaten an employee and no, it's obviously not against those who criticise the performance as such but against the morons who have crossed the line. So what's the problem?

Square Enix can't realistically enforce legal action on any or all comments that say "Dawntrail bad, Wuk Lmao sucks, Sena Bryer is a terrible VA" and they know that. This Harrassment Policy applies to the extreme cases where unhinged individuals (and anyone who believes this communities is without a fair share of them is lying to themselves) are clearly trespassing on an employee's privacy or sending death threats, both of which are far from legal actions. And this goes regardless of whatever nonsense Bryer brings in Twitter.

Both Vice and OP are blowing things out of proportion and the whole policy is pretty much the usual "We reserve the right to withold services for the aforementioned reasons and if you do illegal stuff to our staff, we will seek legal action".

Wouldn't that already be covered by ToS and national/state laws?

Pretty much. Hence why the whole thing is exaggerated. Only possible "new" thing would be the angle of denying services because of things outside the game but:

    1. Most, if not all, terms of services contain clauses that cover for unforeseen situations where they wish to enforce their right to deny services.
    2. Unless the person who falls on their bad graces is a known personality, it's not really feasible for SE to track every social media user down to their game account.

So yeah, reality is that nothing comes out of this.

There is a clear difference between making fun of/criticizing and harassing tho'. The tone between " I didn't like DT, because.." and "Wuk Lamat should die" is very different. Under no circumstance, should you harass somebody, threaten or otherwise, no matter how stupid, or unlikeable the person is.

"Bryer still received an onslaught of abuse, death threats, and doxxing attempts." + "..these criticisms were not constructive at all,".

If you are a toxic nuclear waste you deserve to be treated as such also the reading and comprehension levels of some here are pretty worrisome, not gonna lie.

If you aren't mature enough to be on social media, you should leave it. I know they can't because they're a voice actor, and they need to self promote, but my god just use the block feature. It's not that hard. Stop letting trolls get to you and abuse your Thanos snap powers. They want you to react to them. Just turn your back on them, and they will get tired of harassing a brick wall.

This is a good policy. Most companies have such policies at least internally as an employee can sue an employer if they do not protect them from unreasonable and illegal actions from not just other employees or managers, but also clients/ Customers.

One would have to live under a rock not to see that some online crazies take things too far, and with increasing frequency. Hence the “right to refuse service” sign that you also find at restaurants and bars for when people act poorly.

The title of this post is laughable. Don’t break a law and you won’t go to jail. They can’t just send someone without behavior warranting it.
