Yeah this really is one of things I can’t get being worried about. Like, it’s really not hard to not harass people lol.

And no, it obviously does not mean ‘you literally cannot criticise anything they do’. I mean, how the hell would they even force that? What constitutes ‘fair/unfair criticism’? Do people think the SE police will appear at their doorstep if they say ‘Dawntrail bad’? Which is more objective fact than subjective statement at this point lol

I’d also like to point out the article mentions FFXIV and Wuk Lamat, but neither of those are the reason why SE is implementing these policies. From what I hear certain fans of other FF games are just as rabid as ffxiv fans can be (i.e death threats, personal harassment, stalking, etc)

It's good policy, but the timing is golden. It is so funny when you think they new iteration of blacklist actually helps harrassers and stalkers, and haven't done anything about that. "We enable systems that helps players to harass each other, but don't do that to us".

The irony is too strong to not notice it.

I’ve not experienced any personally but I’ve seen(read) many stories over the years around how players have struggled to get actual support from SE in regards to things like harassment and/or stalking.

I’m not sure what the new iteration of blacklist was (I don’t talk to people frequently enough to have to use it lol), but it does seem like they’re woefully unprepared (or unwilling?) to actually intervene and implement protective measures when it comes to players experiencing many of the things this policy protects staff from.

I do think it’s worth mentioning again though that the policy hasn’t come around because of ffxiv alone, but a compound of how people have (unreasonably) treated devs from various SE projects. So I think this decision has probably come from somewhere ‘higher up’. Maybe lol. Somewhere so high up they can’t see the players at all, I guess…

Which could explain why it’s the total opposite of what some players in ffxiv can experience lol, which then raises the question ‘why won’t they do the same for players in the same situation’? I mean, every player is a customer right? Think of the money Yoshi-P!

You would be surprised how far can some people go to torment someone they dislike, to the point that simply blocking them doesn't cut it. Forget controversial public figures, even individual players in this community have dealt with such kind of deranged lunatics. Whether Sena Bryear has had the misfortune of running into one of these I don't know but, regardless, a block isn't enough for everybody. Specially if they start to go through more unsavory methods to torment you. And it's not like she can personally go file a lawsuit against everyone who invaders her privacy or sends her a death threat either because trying to get those cases to court is very hard on your time and your money with no guarantee of a solution, as you need to collect airtight evidence of malicious intent and infringement of the law to ensure the judge rules in your favor, and even the solution might not be even worth all the loops you have to jump through, due to the aforementioned factors.

And there is also the matter where blocking is easy if you deal with an occasional heckler but, as the numbers pile up and start coming at you through multiple venues, it becomes harder to turn the back.

It's still on them to be mature enough to deal with it or get off social media. It's bad enough It's full of morons virtue signaling their fake virtues while spilling vitriol like the children that they are, but then sane people give them attention and justify their actions in their own twisted minds. The story sucked let's go after a voice actor that has nothing to do with it says more about them than me.

I've been stalked. I've been harassed. You have to get over it. Otherwise, it will eat you up inside. Just block them and ignore them and hope they get bored. It's harder for them because they're a voice actor and they need the work. But it's not their fault they're being harassed. I think Donald Trump is human snake feces, but I don't think it's right to harass him because you don't like him. That's what children do. You're an adult. Vote against him and take your lumps when he wins. Same with them. Block, block, and block some more. I'd be more worried about creating an echo chamber than I would be about some random fanboy. And if it does get that bad, hire security and buy a gun. I don't know what to tell them. Being a celebrity brings that on. Regardless if you're a D list one.

I'm so sorry you won't be able to harass people online anymore. Wishing you strength in these difficult times

The literal one quote from her in the article is her saying that she does block them.

"Performing as the character Wuk Lamat, Bryer still received an onslaught of abuse, death threats, and doxxing attempts. “I’ve been hiding & blocking most of them but it’s been like this every single day, on every single tweet,” "

She just gets a lot of it. Every day. She very much has every right to complain here.

How about instead of doing death threats because you're big mad about a game, you go do something else? Entitled weirdos.

Actors can't do without a social network. You can bitch all you want about it, it's become completely impossible in their profession - or almost.

As for the trick of blocking, you must not have been stalked very seriously or very much if that was enough to stop them. In my experience, it can even make things worse - the stalker moves on to other networks (especially professional ones) where you really don't want to see them. Sometimes, not blocking is precisely the right thing to do because it lets you know where the messages are going to land.

In short, enough of the ‘just block / don't care / etc’ rhetoric that half-heartedly accuses people who are victims of online harassment of being whiners.

I never said that, but if Twitter is the issue, stop using Twitter. I'm not invalidating the crazy stuff these psychos are saying. All I'm saying is take charge of your own shit. Be an adult.

Video gamers are weirdos. Japan as a country has stalker and harassment issues. Hell, their phones don't have the ability to shut off their shutter sounds on their cameras because of all the creepy weirdos.

I just think all of it is stupid. Especially arguing fair treatment, etc, with devices made from slave labor from a colbalt mine in a building with suicide nets. But let's debate right and wrong!

    It's all stupid.
