Such as? I can't recall anything in ARR that had more depth than "Interact with this" and "Kill 3-4 things".

It think it would be more fair to say ARR “felt” like it had more gameplay because it didn’t blatantly continue to use the same quest design unapologetically even if the beats often repeated

Like we meme about “return to the waking sands” but at least different things happened on each outing

How many times in DT did the quest sequence go

“Talk to wuk Lamat” -> “talk to 3 townsfolk” -> “talk to the important person” -> “report what the important person said to wuk Lamat”

As a healer main in this game for nigh on 14 years all I can say is that I’m tired. My role has been eroded of complexity and expression for 3 expansions. I’ve watched the tanks do my role for me for 2 expansions and my feedback and critiques continue to fall on deaf ears.

I have no idea who modern healers are designed for but I know now it’s not me. This is the first expansion I’m truly considering dropping the healer role and not returning, so if that was the goal- congratulations I guess

So it's story related again, not core gameplay mechanic. That's the structure of the way the story was told/presented, nothing to do with 'gameplay'.

Beats "speak to wuk lamat" x500 /shrug
I leveled a alt recently and was surprised how often they actually make you kill a couple enemies for a quest to break up the reading. It's refreshing

Nah that ain't it. Nothing's stopping you from just doing a FATE or killing some random creatures to break up the reading on your own. Aside from the fact that it's not actually refreshing and it's boring. The only issue was that Dawntrail's story sucked and adding in 3 things to kill every 10 quests wasn't going to save it.

Dawntrail just showed how awful the msq gameplay is. We had great stories to distract us, but the fact is it's not fun to read for 3 hours to get to do a dungeon or a trial once in a blue moon.
More solo trials and some downtime to kill mobs while the npcs talk would be nice

Let me just put a few thoughts in your head. A couple of thoughts I had for 7.0 MSQ.

Wuk Lamat goes out to capture a Llama? Its a minigame/solo instance, grab that critter!
The Hanu Hanu do their festival? The WoL leads the progression, trying to move the float past as many Hanu as possible. Capture the moment!
We have to cook Xibruq Pibil? Cool beans, here is a set of faux crafter skills, go make that HQ, hero!
Driving a suicide train into an enemy fortress? Its a shooting minigame like in Gold Saucer, defend your bomb!

etc etc. There are ways we could marry gameplay and story, make everything more interactive. Square Enix would just need to do it and stop being afraid to require gameplay for MSQ progress.

The new world (xak tural / yok tural) just feels kind of, solved? Like it speed runned through the discovery and development phases of a continent that has largely been cut off from much of the world because of natural hazards. Especially what with the dome and the "Okay, so in addition to fantasy South American and North America, we are going to do some time dilation 30 years into the future to introduce a cyberpunk society to a continent you barely got connected to".

Like I can only imagine what weirdness that Meracydia is going to be like if this is how the new world is. At most I am expecting one desert zone that is kind of what I imagine Meracydia to be like, such as the outback. Then a bunch of other zones that might or may not fit. Then with one endgame zone, the last zone of the msq, that is meant to be a rehash in some manner to Living Memory or Ultima Thule or Amaurot or Azys Lla. I can't imagine Meracydia being underdeveloped or cut off from the rest of the world.

I don't think there's any lore on Meracydia more recent than Allag's invasion.
