I always thought it should be harsher: abandoning a randomly-matched duty after you entered it should permanently apply to your account, so that the next penalty is even longer.

This way, if you abandoned 48 times (30 minutes x 48), the next penalty would be 1 day. If you keep abandoning duties, it eventually increases, reaching a week or more.

It could be even harsher and just double each time. 30, 60, 120, 240 minutes, etc. And it would be a permanent increase in the penalty to teach them a lesson.

Why do I feel this way? Back in Heavensward, I spent 40 MINUTES in the queue as a PLD for Steps of Faith. When I entered it, everyone abandoned because they thought it was "hard" (seriously???). It was absolutely heartbreaking to queue for that long, excited to progress the MSQ and experience the fight, and have them all just leave. It made me feel like if I can't progress the MSQ then I can't really play... it was soul crushing.

I spent about an hour picking myself up from how crushing it was and trying one more time. Again I queued for 40 minutes as a PLD. This time, I knew everyone would leave, so I typed a message in advance to beg them to stay. By the time I was able to send the message, there were only 3 people who saw it before they left, and they decided to stay and help me. We waited for quite a while for it to refill (many of the refillers also abandoned, which is sad).

And guess what, it was easy. They were actually afraid of this thing that was literally a joke at the time I did it (I'd resumed MSQ a while after HW released).

In my entire time playing, with over 10k dungeons and commendations, I've never abandoned a duty including ones I dread (obviously I've disconnected, but that's different).

This is something you should get over because this happened, what, 8-9 years ago? Firstly, most of the duties in this game can be done with an NPC party so getting stuck in the MSQ is less of an issue than ever. Second, it's not even prime time and I queued for the final steps of faith instantly AS A DPS (unless you meant the OG steps of faith, which they also 'fixed' by just making it a solo duty.) I mean sheesh pulling up an example from almost a decade ago as a reason this should be implemented is stupid. Legitimately stupid.

Are you innumerate or did you just not think this through? 12th offence locking you out of roulettes for 1024 hours (42 and a bit days, or over 1 months sub). On what planet is this going to give an improvement in paying player experience or retention?

What this really would incentivise is people sitting afk for 5 minutes, wasting everyone’s time until they’re kicked at no penalty to themselves. And the minute that adds to your punishment tally is the minute premade bully parties become rampant because the fallout would be far too funny to resist.

In my thousands of hours of playing I left a total of 3-4 times and it was due to other players simply being uncooperative/unresponsive or I simply couldn't carry them on the tank I was playing (feels ShB DRK man).

I feel the frustration cause I remember when I was doing ShB MSQ for Titania I waited 40mins as dps and when it popped we wiped once and all the 'mentors' left after and everyone soon followed...leaving me all alone in the party waiting for it to refill (it took like 15mins?).... Was a horrible experience since I just wanted to progress the story and it was late already. Funny enough, it went smoothly with the new batch of people...

I would've suggested an additive penalty (with a limit?) like the 3 strike queue penalty but people raise a good point that it might cause people to wait to be kicked (tho I reckon that'd be reportable behavior as well no?)

But locking people out for 24hrs? Seems abit much...I guess 30min is a sweet spot right now. Sucks when it happens but I guess it is what it is.
