For game to be "massively multiplayer" it requires, definitionally, a massive number of players. It is largely the subs of the "Casual base" that you so despise that finance the game, "base" being a highly-pertinent word here.

These players do not actually dictate game design, however. The state of FF14 is a result of decisions made by SQEX. You're waving your stick at the wrong cloud.

Those decisions were made because "that crowd complained", they clearly have a hold on the developers more than you think.

I'm just tired of the game being held hostage by a demographic that couldn't care less to actually play a real video game.

Its turned into a walking social simulator with very low thinking required, I lost a lot of love for this game.

I just don't care what happens to FFXIV now.

I've been getting into other things yes, I'm just mostly here for my friends now on FFXIV and just seeing where the DT story goes but everything else is just soulless to me.

Honestly, I don't disagree with you in spirit. I'm here for friends, the story (which... isn't going so good), and PvP which is currently an unmitigated disaster. It's somewhere to hang out, not somewhere that provides imaginative combat.
