She recognizes her shortcomings by saying that exertion sounds not in their assigned gender are difficult.

Could it be that gender has nothing with said limitations and there's something in a more innate level?

Can doctors magically deny basic intrinsic capabilities such as tonal range when they observe something when a human being is born?

I guess it's also phobic to point those limitations? Where does that put the VA herself?
Struggles to do thing because [x]. Gets hired to do that exact thing. Struggles to do that exact thing. Players point out that there was a struggle to do that thing because [x].

Suddenly, full on twitter style meltdown because pointing out the elephant in the room means you're every label under the sun.

My only response to this, is that as discussed in this thread there have been successful voice actors who have taken on roles of the opposite gender and had great performances.

I'd hate to generalize Sena's limited range to all trans actors, some of whom may have a larger range than Sena. There are also many CIS actors who have limited range and can't handle yelling or certain voice ranges.

I think range should be part of the audition process if it's needed for the role. For Wuk Lamat, which has scenes of yelling, delivering speeches from a balcony requiring a projected voice, and extreme emotional anguish - range is important and needed to be tested at the audition phase.

I'm not gonna deny that. My favorite JP voice actress is Romi Park, who is known for often voicing young men such as Edward Elric in FMA, or Hitsugaya in Bleach. She has a husky voice naturally, which works really well when she project her voice in a certain way to match those characters.

As a woman with a deeper voice, I like her a lot for what she's capable of doing.

But also, Romi Park is rarely cast to play adult men if at all (I believe that happened once with a character who doesn't have a very well defined appearance).

And I agree, range should be part of the auditions, but clearly, they missed the mark, because the limitations were clear, very clear. If it was clear for us "common folk", then where does that put the one who hired her?

Still, my question stands, because the bar of what limitations are pointed keeps being switched, and whenever something it's pointed out, the finger pointing begins.

I wanted to say that I am in complete agreement with you. Sena posted herself about her own limitations, and could not deliver the range needed for this role. It seems completely foreseeable by Sena and the casting director.

I can't really fault a struggling voice actor who also posted possibly needing to go work at Starbucks or whatever due to not making it in this field for taking such a big role. If she pulled it off, it would have been career-defining in a good way.

I'd just hate to lose some posters here to possible reports of transphobia. Some of the comments from others aren't really needed to discuss the performance, but could risk being able to post here which would be a shame.

I've seen some great people banned from these forums over the years, several of whom I still miss interacting with here. And I don't really wish that on anyone who posts in good faith just because they have an unpopular opinion.

i'm so glad that you found this tweet. i just don't understand why a voice actor can't play to their suits instead of trying to force themselves into doing something they can't. or why someone would get hired to fulfill a role that they cannot perform in. i think it's important to archive these tweets as well, i'm really shocked he hasn't gone back and scrubbed a lot of things he says because they look really bad in a professional light. lol.

So it's difficult and bad accent on top of it.

Sounds like a bad fit for the actress

    It's OK to say that.

I'll give that much that is not her fault but of those who cast her.

The direction was abysmal as well. One of the most blatant examples of this to me is that there's like three or four different pronunciations for Tuliyollal.

I've played the MSQ in japanese myself as the weeb I am, but I've been watching a friend play through it in english and really, it's been a struggle. In JP Poochie is just comes off as the generic loud shonen protag which is not great, but in English, the combo of bad character writing plus the voice it's been difficult to even stomach it and brings back flashbacks of the awful latin american dubs I grew up with. I find that really sad because, even if I'm a weeb and if there's an option between subs of dubs, I'll always go subs and yet, since Heavensward, XIV has become one of the few things I didn't mind to listen to in english and thought had a very solid cast (the other being the Nier series).

The ball has not just been dropped, it reached enough speed to pierce through the ground.

Regardless of my personal stance on some things, some people are clearly trying to get the raise out of others, and then there those willing to take the bait to feed their sense of righteousness.

In the end, neither side helps with anything at all

I remember seeing your post earlier of why you address her as you do based on your experience and I fully sympathize due to my own personal experience as an old tomboy who never outgrew her tomboy phase. I'm not going to tell you how to speak or how to address someone because that's absolutely on you.

I'm not gonna speak about respect either since I'm the kind of person who thinks respect is earned, that's why I never expect respect, I simply expect a degree of level headedness when discussing something with someone I disagree with.

But I really believe you're not helping the argument and you're just giving ammo to those who wish to be outraged.

That's all, I'll try to remain on topic.
