I MISS MY BEST FRIEND ZENOS
I MISS MY BEST FRIEND ZENOS
The problem is, she barely grows. Unless there's a massive change right at the end, but between 5 out of the 6 zones of the Expansion, she's pretty much same unlikeable idiot she started as that we're just supposed to like and can't say no to.she's a new character. She is presented as young and naive. Over the course of the current MSQ, she is shown as growing into her own, especially the last few quests. She will supposedly be involved in this new arc and is expected to grow fully into a more fleshed out character over the course of the arc. Read a few good books, you'll see what I mean
Yes. Everyone does that. I'm tired of pretending that people don't do that. It doesn't take 20 hours to realize you find an annoying person annoying.
Yes lmfaoI think of Wuk as how I felt about Zero. I disliked Zero when I first met her, thinking she was edgy and emo and bland. But once the story progressed and I played through it, I loved Zero and how her character developed.
It's amazing so many ppl saying a character SUCKS when she was just INTRODUCED. Talk about judging a book by its cover. Give me a break. Do you do that IRL too?
If I feel weirded out by someone's first interaction or if I just can't vibe with them after a prolonged period of time, I'm not gonna force myself to like them. Even if they're a coworker or classmate where I'd be forced to interact with them everyday. If I do not vibe with someone, I'm simply not gonna bother befriending them.
I gave Wuk Lamat a chance. I simply do not vibe with her or her character or her character trope and I cannot force myself to care about her lame character development. She pretty much had the spotlight for the entire 30+ hour MSQ. If a character needs anymore time than that, they can fuck off lmao
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
i don't even hate wuk but this statement only makes sense if DT wasn't already outI think of Wuk as how I felt about Zero. You: How do you know you don't like it if you don't eat several of them over the next few years
Yes, exactly. There is a world of difference between a character who is unlikable because they are poorly written (Wuk Lamat) and characters who are unlikable in the context of a well written story (Julian Bashir, Star Trek DS9; Jamie Lannister, Game of Thrones). Unsurprisingly, the well written ones see good, actual character development.I'm a pretty avid reader, but it's kind of poor storytelling if I have to wait for a character to be redeemed and become likeable towards the very end, especially because she played such an enormous role in the MSQ. It's not surprising that people are having a hard time liking a story that revolves around a character that is supposed to be unlikeable until the very end. It would be like the entirety of a Star Wars movie revolving around Jar Jar Binks as the main character with 90% of the screen time, everyone would understandably hate it.
I don't mind unlikeable characters that grow throughout the story and have character development, I understand that. But you also need to have another character that we the reader/viewer need to relate to and like along the way or you just end up being annoyed that the focus is always on this character you are not even *supposed* to like until the end.
I hate to tell you, and I'm not even sure where you got this idea from, but Wuk is supposed to be endearing from the very beginning. You're SUPPOSED to like her, but think that she's not ready for leadership yet. You hating her from the beginning is just you. imo, the writing/cutscenes make that very clear.I'm a pretty avid reader, but it's kind of poor storytelling if I have to wait for a character to be redeemed and become likeable towards the very end, especially because she played such an enormous role in the MSQ. That said, whether or not you feel it works or not is the real question, and obviously it doesn't for you.
I just spent like 30 hours with her. If you are super generous and remove 10 hours for dungeons/wandering around - that's two full seasons of Game of Thrones. If you cannot develop a character in 20 hours, you're an awful awful writer.I think of Wuk as how I felt about Zero. I disliked Zero when I first met her, thinking she was edgy and emo and bland. For comparison, Emet, Yotsuyu, and Fordola were given around the same amount of time. Koana was given half of that.
