Also look at the lines, someone did a count and she's had more dialogue than any character in any expac, and still no growth or any for a decent personality.I just spent like 30 hours with her. If you are super generous and remove 10 hours for dungeons/wandering around - that's two full seasons of Game of Thrones. If you cannot develop a character in 20 hours, you're an awful awful writer.
For comparison, Emet, Yotsuyu, and Fordola were given around the same amount of time. Koana was given half of that.
Louder for the people in the back. I regret that I only have one like to give for this comment.I just spent like 30 hours with her. The amount of people that I've heard say "Well AcTuAlLY it's stupid to expect the first part of a story to be good because we don't have years of build up to make the story good" and it's like...the MSQ is the length of most standard games. If you can't write a compelling story in that time or develop characters in that time it's exactly as you said; you're an awful writer.

I MISS MY BEST FRIEND ZENOS
I like Wuk Lamat.

By far one of the worst characters in xiv history, she has nothing going for her, she is useless, weak, stupid, clumsy and naive, but every other character just keep telling her how great she is so she never grows or overcomes any of her issues, just boring to be around.

I've played FFXIV for a while now and this is the only time I was ever compelled to sort out my forum account and make a post.
Yeah. Wuk Lamat sucks. Not because she was bad from the offing but because the writers just failed to live up to the potential this character had. We could've had a fun arc where she went from "Lyse" to "Commander Hext"- a naive, sheltered warrior-noblewoman to a suzerain that has surveyed her realm and gotten to know her people.
Oh and the fact that her existence basically sidelined Krile and Erenville. I really hope that the writers don't force her along with us in the patch content or I will lose it.
Wuk is like Naruto if the person writing her character saw clips of Naruto but had no context for what they were seeing.
As Dogempire points out there's a reason for how Naruto is the way he is.
At the start of the series, we learn Naruto is an orphan shunned by the entire village because he has a demon fox inside of him (which ravaged the village). The kids of said adults, by proxy, all grow to keep their distance from him.
So he acts out, he is the class clown because he seeks attention, any attention, good or bad.
He acts tough and sure of himself but you get candid glimpses of him when he's alone that its mostly a facade. When the parents of his class mates come to pick them up he sits alone, on a swing, watching. The expression on his face tells you all you need to know about his pain.
So when he finally begins to make bonds (his teacher Iruka first) and friends (Sasuke and Sakura) he cherishes these bonds beyond anything else.
He is a loud mouth true and through though, but he stumbles, he fails, he gets picked up and learns lessons and grows. He sees people die. He sees those who are stronger than him and he questions if he will become like them (cold, isolated, alone) if he too becomes strong. He watches as he can do nothing to stop his friend leave to gain power for his own goals. He feels like a failure and wants to do everything he can to not be a failure any longer and protect those around him.
All these goals make sense for his character and it all plays out perfectly culminating in a wonderful character arc that makes sense.
Wuk has none of these aspects to her and that's why she's so insufferable. She never stumbles, never learns, never grows. She's boring and one dimensional because of it.
Wuk Lamats Character development: "Oh no, somebody can see i get seasick, but side from that i get powers out of nowhere and can break through a...i dont know...AI Wall and can Talk no Jutsu a Computer to change his mind."
Worst character ever written.
That starting scene where she staggers out on to the deck and hurls during the storm, THEN GETS PRAISED BEYOND EVERYONE ELSE, really just set the tone.

Pretty much everyone does that's been well established now
