Isn't that precisely because they depend on your goodwill and money to blow on their gacha shop? The happier you are, the more likely you are to spend even more money.

In FFXIV, you’ve already paid for admission. They don’t really expect you or need you to pay more.

The mindset really needs to be this: you are paying for a monthly pass, like you would for Disneyland. If a particular day is closed for maintenance, you are not compensated. Nor are you compensated if a particular ride is closed for the day. Your ticket only allows you access to the park when it is open, which you agree to when you buy the ticket.

If you actually took time to read the EULA, you would see in part 5, that you specifically agreed to:

During these times, access to the Game or support services may be interrupted. Access may also be temporarily suspended in whole or in part, without notice, due to emergency repairs, fire, flood, explosion, war, strike, embargo, governmental action or failure to act, the act of any civil or military authority, act of God, or by any other causes beyond Square Enix's control, or any other reasons for which Square Enix, in its sole discretion, deems that temporary suspension is necessary.
