Quoting your main points as you seem to talk like you're better than people when you aren't? Either you're very good at being ironic without trying to, or you're very fail. your choice.go for it. because i've been a pretty vocal advocate of the game catering to all demographics- and pointing out by proxy that it currently caters to all demographics BUT mine.
my point has been simple all along. keep solo and casual content. keep low man semi-difficult instanced content. add more of it. but also add more difficult content and large-scale raid content as well, as the game currently lacks either.
in the meantime all you can do is conjure up straw men, run off on irrational tangents about one or two buzzwords in my posts (while completely ignoring everything else i say), and do your best to quote me out of context to support your feeble position. so have fun with that, i guess?
I'm still curious if version 2.0 will utilise at least directx 10 if not 11. . . or openGL 3.0~4.0?He has some good points, but then if you look at what he did to Resident Evil you may think differently.
Granted Resident Evil 5 sold a lot and many thought it was a good game, but it turned what was once a survival horror into just another shooter.
So I do agree that Japanese dev's need to get their acts together, I do feel bad for JP developers though, because they were stuck on the PS2 for a long time, when it came time to move to this gen they had very little understanding of openGL and DirectX, I still think they are playing catch up and the horrendous programming, UI and optimisation of this game prove that.
We can only hope that Yoshida has a good team behind him now.
Is the ps3 limited too directx9.0c?

I am seriously going to beat you until battle tanks pull us apart.
It'd appeal to a very small demographic, as TES is basically a sandbox game with a story so that you can actually see the credits roll for the game. As I've said time and again, it would have worked back when EQ and SWG were up there in terms of MMO. A lot of the stuff we take for granted in Skyrim would have a ton of timesinks built in because of the fact it would be an MMO.So far it's just a rumour but I really wouldn't be surprised. Their worlds always made me feel like the online aspect was. . . . well, not lacking from them, but rather could be there.

* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

It will use DX9 for PC and whatever openGL version the PS3 is using. They plan to extend it to DX10/11 later on.
PS3 doesn't use directX as it's neither a microsoft console nor a windows based PC.Is the ps3 limited too directx9.0c?

I completely agree. And same goes for those other non S.E. games, they need to compete with S.E. in other departments. But S.E. definitely fails from a gameplay perspective. So many F2P MMOs do combat systems better than FFXIV. That's funny, when you consider how much more money S.E. developers probably get paid.I think one of the key points the interview made was Western developers make good GAMEPLAY, not necessarily great artistry or presentations....
I think WoW, GuildWars, Anarchy Online D&D online ALLODDS etc all have much better gameplay than ffxiv (all not from Japan), but none of them have that special pazaz of presentation like Square enix can offer. Like their Chrono Trigger / FinalFantasy etc games.
But they seriously have to stop using this as a crutch....
Well you just have to suffer through shitty gameplay to get a that awesome feeling setting/style/presentation. I just don't agree. I think we should get the great gameplay of Mass Effect, Skyrim, and it's ilk WITH the great settings like FinalFantasy, and it's siblings.

it baffles me.
I am playing Dragon age 2 right now for the first time.
The characters are amazing (the models suck, but the characters are memorable ^^), the story is good, the combat is FUN, the game is FUN!!!
But damn, if the whole city/world/areas don't look so bland, lame and boring as if it's strait out of the original Diablo.
Are game designers not from SE allergic to color? Do they think using colors other than brown/grey/black/dull-green make them look homosexual (yay for homosexuals they are awesome! Some great designers too). Do we find out after all this time that our western game designers are irrationally homophobic?
That isn't a joke I am serious!
When I see a pretty game, I am like WOoooOoooW....and my guy freinds are like ...Jake...that game looks gay.....
I like pressty Elf girls, pretty bunny girls, fluffy trees, colorful areas.....is that BAD?!
DAFUQ is going on here?
There's this thing called culture.
Unfortunately, it informs all art, including the art in games.
In order to appeal to as broad an audience as possible, western publishers are not particularly fond of innovative art styles that may alienate players. Unfortunately, "appeal to a broad audience" usually translates as bland. In addition, games attempting to create hyper-realistic settings generally come off as bland because, reality is bland (usually) and even more so when you can only get 50% of the way there.
I once mentioned on another forum board that SE should swallow their pride and work together with Bioware or maybe Bethesda. Since most seem to want SE to make games about the regions and continents mentioned but never seen in FFXI, I always suggested it'd be great to see both companies team up and present games set in those continents never seen using the Dragon Age/Mass Effect formulas, or perhaps take the Oblivion/Skyrim approach.Well you just have to suffer through shitty gameplay to get a that awesome feeling setting/style/presentation. I just don't agree. I think we should get the great gameplay of Mass Effect, Skyrim, and it's ilk WITH the great settings like FinalFantasy, and it's siblings.

He's powerful enough to be a sword in another video game.
I did enjoy reading that full article.
