He has some good points, but then if you look at what he did to Resident Evil you may think differently.

Granted Resident Evil 5 sold a lot and many thought it was a good game, but it turned what was once a survival horror into just another shooter.

So I do agree that Japanese dev's need to get their acts together, I do feel bad for JP developers though, because they were stuck on the PS2 for a long time, when it came time to move to this gen they had very little understanding of openGL and DirectX, I still think they are playing catch up and the horrendous programming, UI and optimisation of this game prove that.

We can only hope that Yoshida has a good team behind him now.

This. I only saw basic things like alt-tab not working in JP games so far, prominent examples being... ffxiv and psu, with both SE and SEGA being large companies one expects a certain level of professionalism from...

The interesting thing is, doujin (indie?) games don't suffer from those bugs, maybe because the people there still do it for the sake of making a good game instead of being rushed to earn money.

I'm amazed that people tend to avoid FFXII when talking about the series.

That game had a god damned WORLD. And the battle system was amazing~

If you enjoy a game that plays itself .. sure, the world was great I'll admit that.

If you got into it, it's essentially doing the same thing we're doing right now. You still needed to tweak your gambits mid boss fight. If you ask me, it was way more intense and exciting than XIII's button mash fest. And if I could choose between XIV's current battle system and XII's gambits, I'd be programmin' gambits all day in Eorzea, baby~.

And dear lord, dat customization. I'm still mad that we never saw the International version.

I agree it was better than 13's battle system, I would actually like to see them use the gambit system for the chocobo, beastmaster pet system and summoner pet system.

It felt more like a Starwars game to me lol.

How do you mean? Legitimately curious, not trying to rage.

You read my mind. I hated the theme and the BGM sucked.

Fundamental problem with both FFXII and XIII was the story. Lots of people have different reasons why they hated those games but to me the one glaring issue was that the pacing of the story was all wrong, from beginning to end. You never feel pulled into it as you would with older titles, some of the characters never get a full background or their own story. An FF are a bunch of side stories within an overarching one. This was missed in the latter games, like they spent so much time being innovative with the combat they didn't have the time or resources for what the fans really care about, knowing who these people are and what their goals are and what happens when they defeat the big bad.

I have not played or even looked at XIII-2 but I hope it regains this.
