I pesonally perfer Japanese games also, Western games are more sandbox style, "make your own story", Japanese games are more set "follow the story" kind of deals.
Most western games are shooting games also, which puts me off instantly lol.
So far it's just a rumour but I really wouldn't be surprised. Their worlds always made me feel like the online aspect was. . . . well, not lacking from them, but rather could be there.

FF needs to bring back its spark in its offline games, FFXIII and XIII-2 were utterly crap compared to the older ones such as FFVII, FFIX, FFX which used open-worlds with cities, shops tons of areas and complete freedom most of the time to go and do as you please, these latest ones (FFXIII) even restrict your ability to lvl up how and when you want to because you have to complete parts of the game to progress more.
FF fans need to stop lying to them selves FF 10 was not open world it was much as a straight line as FF 13 was and all FF games are linear no matter which way you look at it.FF needs to bring back its spark in its offline games, FFXIII and XIII-2 were utterly crap compared to the older ones such as FFVII, FFIX, FFX which used open-worlds with cities, shops tons of areas and complete freedom most of the time to go and do as you please, these latest ones (FFXIII) even restrict your ability to lvl up how and when you want to because you have to complete parts of the game to progress more.
This. I only saw basic things like alt-tab not working in JP games so far, prominent examples being... ffxiv and psu, with both SE and SEGA being large companies one expects a certain level of professionalism from...So I do agree that Japanese dev's need to get their acts together, I do feel bad for JP developers though, because they were stuck on the PS2 for a long time, when it came time to move to this gen they had very little understanding of openGL and DirectX, I still think they are playing catch up and the horrendous programming, UI and optimisation of this game prove that.
The interesting thing is, doujin (indie?) games don't suffer from those bugs, maybe because the people there still do it for the sake of making a good game instead of being rushed to earn money.

I'm amazed that people tend to avoid FFXII when talking about the series.
That game had a god damned WORLD. And the battle system was amazing~
