I'd be perfectly fine with anti cheat. Ironically, because I absolutely hate dps meters because of harassment in Wow, but to kinda get to the point that I'd go after your Mare users and your Pnumbra users more than someone using ACT I'm just saying. Because at least in this game, I've seen way more modbeasts and people urging people to be modbeasts than people actually using a parser tool, etc. Heck, I've been ostracized from an FC because I didn't want to use mods in that way.

Apples and oranges, but to me, that sector of the player base could use a purge of their addons more than the other.

But I'd be down either way.

I have no desire to see an anti cheat system in FF14, or any game in general. For the most part they've been more annoying than anything else by way of additional overhead or issues with false positives. If people are causing problems by modifying the game in unintended ways they can be banned.

Is this about cheaters or modders? They're not the same, by definition or otherwise. Giving yourselves hats as a bun because Square is too occupied/lazy to do it themselves doesn't magically give you zoom hacks to complete Ultimates. You also have no idea that it's even happening so unless you're going out of your way to find people using cosmetics (by installing plugins to see them or otherwise) it shouldn't affect your experience? I can get behind banning people who bot in PVP or use handholding add-ons in higher end content since they're visible to the playerbase when they occur and provide a combat advantage but otherwise, no. You're not going to see the mods unless you look for them yourself.

You can always go play WoW/BDO/GW2/*insert other online game here* if you don't want to be around cosmetic mods, throwing the same logic back at you with telling people to play Second Life.

Maybe it's because I'm so casual, but I've never really understood people being so focused on anti-cheat systems, especially in an mmorpg. It's not competitive, it's not CS:Go or Overwatch or something. And also, I can't imagine it's THAT pervasive that it's affecting most players.

Combine that with how invasive anti-cheat systems have to be to be truly effective, and it's just not worth it for me.

If true you dodged a bullet by getting out of that FC, at least I hope you left. Pressuring people into something is one of the biggest red flags an FC can have, they're probably not very fun to be around.

Because I want to engage in the content but it's currently the norm to cheat? How is it fascinating or difficult for you to wrap your head around the fact that people want to engage in the content but are averse to playing with cheaters?

Tell me you know nothing about how the legal system works without telling me you know nothing about how the legal system works.

These two cases were just won by these companies. It now makes it MUCH easier to win for other companies to go after cheat software providers/distributors. In the Bungie case it deals more with IP tampering so this could also effect games that don't allow mods in their ToS such as Street Fighter 6 or of course XIV. Anything that changes the IP of the game is now illegal and thanks to the jury the precedent is set. All SE would have to do is prove that it is happening, send a S&D, then sue the living **** out of the people behind the mod programs for infringing on their IP. Sure it might be a slight oversimplification of course but one that most of the big gaming publishers have done at some point or another. Plus there is nintendo out there suing everyone for even mentioning mario.

Would this, in term, make it also possible to ban the modders of ffxiv too? The ones using them ingame (even though theyre not tied to the IP)? Im generally curious

FFXIV is one of the most add-on friendly multiplayer games in general. And people love this. For many people, cheats are the only reason why they play this game. Just read this thread for proof. FFXIV's most popular features are modding support and letting you play other games. Why would Square Enix choose to go bankrupt? And what other reason is there to play FFXIV when every other MMO has better gameplay?

considering the whole payment issues that have been a problem for nearly 2 months for different countries regarding visa debits, paypal, amazon pay, crysta, among other things--I'd say squeenix loves that possibility lol. Otherwise we wouldnt be having these discussions regarding either of them.

I absolutely would not give WoW as an example in this argument. If anything WoW is worse when it comes to third party tool usage. I'm not familiar with the fashion side of WoW modding, but raiding uses multiple programs to assist in their raiding scenes. Weak auras and tools akin to Cactbot are widely used and modern fights are designed around these player tools. Not to mention custom UI tools, rotation assist tools, and their own suite of parsing tools.
