I'd rather just the actual voices we use for our characters already rather than AI, though I have to disagree with a lot of the headcanon arguments. I feel like the game already does this, but disallowing you to intervene in cutscenes, by forcing you to go along with or not with plots that your headcanon character would or wouldn't, by limiting our dialogue choices to what they are WHEN they crop up as mostly you're silent and have nothing to say except to just lifelessly go along with whatever's happening around you - basically, there's already a METRIC TON of things already in the game that break immersion for what someone images their WoL to be like just to facilitate the game's railroad plotlines. Being able to pick a voice for your character so you can be more engaged in the things verbally would just be more of the same.

As for Fallout 4, iirc, much of the backlash involving that was less that the characters had a voice at all and more that the dialogue choices were a poor representation of WHAT they were doing to say.

I'm not fine with AI replacing actual voice work for people and I'd like the voice I picked for my WoL to match their dialogue and maybe we can select personalities for dialogue choices much like we already do for our retainers. It'd be more work on the devs but one I'd certainly appreciate a lot more than the silent protagonist we've been.

Right but when TV started Radio behaved the same towards TV and many radio jobs were lost because of TV, my point is the world changes and creative industries are notoriously bad at adapting to that change.

Ultimately it will happen, and very soo. It's an VO is antiquated industry. The best form of interaction in game will be for the NPC's to be AI controlled voiced and respond to the players actual voice, so you could speak you dialogue to the NPC and they reaction from that.

While I'm excited for the all the good things that AI generation can bring to games, I don't want a character that I'm playing as to turn into its own separate entity. It would be jarring to have someone speak for me if I'm supposed to take the role of the character. Voice recognition with intelligence behind it would be more valuable since I could speak for myself and experience other characters in the game react to my words.

Voice actors are artists. Would I support corporations making even more money by leaving them in the gutter? Over my dead body.

I don't want my character to speak because it wouldn't be the voice actor I wanted. And I hate AI used in that manner.
I want my art, stories, voice acting, music, etc, etc to be made by humans.

    So, no on all fronts.

Most of the art you consume is computer generated, the role of "artists" is smaller and smaller, even in games, a very large portion of art assets are batch generated. Also lighting systems are literally computer generated lighting, there's not really artistry there it's a raw number calculation. People have this weirdly skewd view around AI generation, it's literally an evolved form of what you've already being enjoying and it's not going away.

If anything the hysteria over AI in art is being fuelled by large corps like Mcrsft and go ogle. They want government regulation on AI so they can price out the open source AI as the corps want to control the AI tools. Open source AI is the most freeing thing for creatives, it means that anyone who has a good idea for a game can pursue that idea and make a game even if they don't have millions. The only time AI is a problem is with government regulation allowing large corps to monopolise it.

This needs to be said more. Freely available AI is one of the best things to happen for creativity.

I'd rather them let me record my own voice than have some AI generated voice speak for me.

Besides, I'm okay with the silent protagonist thing we have going on.

A genuine question here, those who object the idea, are any of you have an art career background such as voice actor, illustrator, composer etc etc?

Did you object the idea out of appreciation of human-made art? or out of career stability?

When I started this thread, I was under the impression that players in general don't really care if their game is developed by either human or AI.

As for why I reached this conclusion,
A bit of personal lore dump here,
I m an artist that used to be part of a R18 game doujin circle that publish R18 game on dlsite, and I saw some R18 game that is developed purely by AI and yet still sold a lot, and Palworld success don't help that either, I stopped drawing after that and left the doujin circle.

Not gonna lie though, seeing 5 page of post that's reject the idea of AI voice, it does restore some of my faith toward players in general lol
No, I don't touch anything related to art. I work in IT and I believe in responsible use of the technology. I guess you could say that I follow the Cid Garlond mentality. Freedom through Technology but to the benefit of mankind and not in a way that harms it. AI causes harm because these systems are trained on stolen works that the original artists are not compensated by something like licensing. I have zero problem if a company uses the technology and trains it with their own works. The minute they start scouring the internet for everyone else's or otherwise using other's original work in some manner, that's when I'm opposed.
