FF 16 cross over event... A HUGE DISPOINTMENT

16 has this weird cult of hatred mostly from older final fantasy fans who believe that 16 “abandoned” old fans

It’s an easy 8.5/10 for your average player if you go into it unbiased and just experience it as a game. If you go in expecting a single digit FF experience expect a 2/10 game because it’s the furthest FF has ever deviated from the single digit formula

It's a bad game for several reasons, I'll list some here:
Firstly it's not an ARPG it's a Character Action game wearing a RPG mask with the battle system being made from a DMC dev.

Stats have no real meaning after every single boss you get a weapon upgrade handed to you not really any meaning behind gear it's all just damage stat stick.
Magic damage is basically just shoot Dante's gun, for example, I hit a bomb with fire it damaged the bomb. The other downside to the combat is, Although it's a Character Action game, it faintly trying to masquerade as an ARPG causes it to fail to be a good Character action game as well, you unlock titan block and garuda claw very early on, from that point in the game everything is just braindead.

Then let's get onto the fact that your basically just teleported back to the hub after every boss fight, it's the most corridor a FF has ever been.

Finally the abomination that is the plot. I have no issue with the "dark" theme. The issue is they ignore or contradict their own character development.

Spoiler ahead, although to be honest read on and save yourself hours of a terrible story.

Clive has an entire character story around him not taking the world on his own shoulders, learning to rely on his friends etc. Has a massive moment with his love interest right before the final mission in which he agrees to let them help him and not go it alone, then immediately leaves them all behind and goes on a suicide mission, cause yeah don't think about it.

Omega, Basically a god, created humans, waited millennia for a human to be born able to contain his power without dying, he determines through a test that this is Clive, it's the entire driving point of the game. Last 5m of the game after takes his power he literally says. O I guess he was wrong and I can't handle it, then basically dies............

Mid, Her entire story was that she wanted to bring tech to people so they wouldn't rely on magic. Just before the game ends she is functionally at what will be the new world government, she functionally with her team created the equivalent of a steam or jet engine. The post credits show a world a few hundred years after the ending, the people are wearing hempen clothes and have a tech age somewhere around the 14th century. Several hundred years after the invention of the jet engine..........

So yeah it's not just old fans who believe ff16 abandoned them, it's empirically a BAD game, the story is terrible, the combat is shallow.
