"Need" seems like an excessive word to bring into this conversation. This is an MMO, and it's fun to play with your friends. It's fun to play the job you like. So if your friend is like, "Hey, I'm going to do my roulette, would you like to play it with me?", sure, we could say that you don't need to do that...but it would be fun.
the problem with this is that you're not the only people queuing in the party, so your lack of gear affects the total strangers you're hanging out with and makes things more difficult for them. it'd be one thing if roulette would just drop you and your friends in a dungeon (which - I mean - you can do if there's four of you of course), but in the case of alliance raids there's 22 other people who get to deal with you constantly dying/doing scratch damage/barely healing.
