People keep saying "Krile has always been so serious" like she didn't make her grand entrance by teasing Alphinaud about his school days, or trick Estinien into thinking she had blackmail material on him (read the side stories, it was hilarious).

Also, she's had a lot of fairly serious things happen to her – her grandfather and most of her colleagues died, her home island is an aether-blasted ruin on the wrong side of the planet, Raha (one of her few surviving friends) was for some time presumed "gone forever" locked in the Crystal Tower, her other good friend Minfilia really is gone forever; while recovering from all of these things she got captured and experimented on by the Garleans, was tasked with caring for the comatose Scions and then had the stress and responsibility of sorting things out in Sharlayan while Hydaelyn urgently tries to get into her head. Plus the whole impending end-of-the-world business.

Right now a lot of that is turning a corner – the bits that can, anyway – as she starts to get the Students of Baldesion back online with support from Raha, Ojika and Erenville. She has a chance to step back and think more about what she actually wants to be doing, and there's nothing to suggest that learning pictomancy is at odds with her character.
