Turning shouts chat on for hunt trains (also they usually do it in /yell too btw, not always shouts) is such a hard task to do, oh myI was half asleep and didn't read what you wrote. No, I'm leaving this dumpster of a datacenter. Sorry, I sleepingly ranted away about the perils of unmoderated venue bots below. Enjoy the insanity, sorry.
They aren't from Dynamis, though. That's the problem. The spam in general should be bannable, but even then, they're like bots. They just crank out level 1s like gil seller bots. They are gone so fast, and black listing does nothing since they will just make another alt. It's frustrating because they spam paragraphs that fill up your chat log. It makes hub cities annoying. And I still stand by what I said. Ban them all.
It's no longer some fun organic community event. They're businesses. Their ads are just as aggressively being shoved down your throat. I'd block shout chat, but then that negatively affects Hunt trains. Since I lose direction from the conductor. Granted, I could infer from group behavior, but still. I shouldn't have to remove a chat channel from my log because of aggressive bots spamming. Again, ban them all.
And I don't enjoy saying that. This isn't some crusade by me against venues. I generally don't care what other players are doing as long as they aren't hurting themselves or anyone else. But it's so aggressive that I'm forced to talk about it. I played on RP servers for years. I've played and RPed in D&D for years. I have nothing but respect for RP players. But something is wrong here and a tab for them on the party finder isn't going to fix the spam. Hell, I don't think banning will either, but maybe the threat of it would calm it down. I doubt it, but let me dream.
lmao
better ban all those people you dislike because pressing a button is too hard for you
Hyperbole, my name is thee.
No, but think about it this way you have to disable and re-enable a chat functionality because people are acting like bots. Because people are being so hyper aggressive with ads for their venues. So you have a toxic player interaction that causes me to opt out of a basic functionality of the game. Is this a minuscule problem? Yes, but it is still a problem.
Also, it's not a one button issue. I'd have to constantly enable and disable shout chat. Maybe make a macro for it. Have you ever played a game where the addon for adblock is preferable? That's not even getting into the fact that addons are so taboo. But in this situation it's a massive quality of life.
And honestly, if a massive quality of life feature revolves around spam. Then spam clearly is a problem.
Do you have any more brain bursters for me, Stormpeaks? Or is being unreasonable your one trick pony? Because we can trade insults and put words in our mouths or be adults.
I have nothing against EPRers RPers and venues. Literally couldn't care less what they do with their time. I've said as much above.
It's the spam. It's always the spam. The constant spam. If it's not ok for an RMT bot, why is it ok for them?
But I'm going to block you Stormpeaks. You have proven to me that you refuse to have an actual conversation.

I'm not the one complaining about a minor inconvenience of having to push a button once a day or maybe twice to turn shouts on/off when I do hunt trains, especially since a majority of the time, train conductors also use /yell and /shout at the same time
Just put your shout chat in a separate chat window. Then you don't have to see it unless you tab over when you want to see it.
Nice and easy.
Yeah, I'm not unopen to suggestions it's just nuts that it's so aggressive that you need to do that. I remember back at the 2.0 launch, the RMT spam was so bad that most people had all the chats turned off except for like FC chat and party chat, etc. That's my kinda overarching take that putting them into a box in the party finder just gives them one more space to propagate and doesn't fix the problem of the spam. Making an advertisement channel would do the same. Something has to give with the spam.
Honestly, I wouldn't be opposed since I use shoutchat when people want to announce hunts or even just chatter with strangers, and possibly make a friend! The ads are too aggressive and frequent, spanning multiple paragraphs for each and sometimes even drowning each other out. Either a separate chat window for advertisements or a set rule, such as one post for an advert and having them not be intrusive. Besides, the club venues are a dime-a-dozen so it wouldn't be difficult for one person to find what they want in a separate chat. Blocking the people doing these ads is pointless since a new person will quickly take their place.

I attend and work at venues of various types. Honestly, an RP tab in PF is a good idea. Also, double and triple advertisements should be stopped. One ad is all you need.
As for shout chat, I don't know. Maybe there could be a /rp chat that you could subscribe to? Instead of turning /shout chat off, turn /rp chat on? And allow the ads to be done in there?
But outright banning people for RP like some suggest. No! Why?
RP is fine. Hell, ERP is fine, but the spamming is what I wanted to ban them for. Not the content of what they were doing. The ferocity of their ads was why I said it. If it's not ok for bots(spamming, not RMT), why is it ok for players?I attend and work at venues of various types. Honestly, an RP tab in PF is a good idea. Look, I'll be honest I hate the venue culture. I want it gone and back to the pit it crawled from, but as long as it isn't hurting anyone, it is what it is. Nobody forces you to go to them. But the ads literally fill up the chatbox, so let's say you're in Limsa and you're chatting in text with a friend. You get lost in your conversation every time one of these venue spammer bots pops in. Is that harming me? No. Is it annoying? Yes. I can't block the spammers. They are like a hydra. Cut off one head, and two more shall take its place. It's fruitless. It's why really only leaving shout is preferable. Since it's the only way. Which is sad. Their interaction is so bad that I block out a chat. Can you see how bad that comes off?
Also, giving them two chat channels just makes two more spam sources. Granted, I can just block the advertisement channel. They will still use shout. I'm surprised they don't use yell, honestly. At least there's some restraint.

I agree that there's constant spam and it can be annoying. But it's because there's so many venues and they're all competing for discovery and there's nowhere else for them to turn to.
Give venues and RP'ers their own tab and a /rp chat they can shout in that is opt-in instead of opt-out. And if you find them still using /shout chat after they've been given their own corner, then feel free to report them.
But right now, there's nowhere else to turn, it's tab Other and /shout chat.
