Bring Back AFK Kick to the Servers

It absolutely needs to come back and stay. I really cant think of a reason why you'd want a player who isnt actually there to be signed in and loaded into the game world, but hasnt done anything for over 30 minutes. When you are AFK in a duty for more than 10minutes you get kicked out of it so why is there no such thing for the game as a whole.

I work from home and send my retainers out every hour.

There. That's a reason. And as long as the servers aren't congested and I'm not taking a spot from anyone who would be actively playing, there's zero reason to disable my ability to do this or to cause me the annoyance of having to log in every time.

Really, i suppose the underlying problem I have with AFK players, is that I can see them, but I cannot socialize with any of them. That is what I miss the most, the socialization of the game. Now it seems getting someone to talk is like pulling teeth, and everyone is so anti-social. I would rather walk around an empty server and know, “okay this is why there isn’t anyone to talk to,” than see all these players standing around AFK and still know that there isn’t anyone to talk to. So yeah, kick the AFK players.

Your personal objection is not a reason to inconvenience other players. Also, I afk in my house.

Wow, I hate that. I sit in que for like a minute or two because its artificially slowed down? Theres like, less than 20 people in queue because we all have to wait around for nothing? Like going to a restaurant and being told there is a wait when there are empty tables and plenty of staff.

It's more like "all our stoves are being used now, we want to sit you down when we are ready to prepare the meal right after you order it" approach. but I get your concept. Would be nice if someone from IT could explain it better with proper terminology and also reason why it's done that way from point of view of technology.

Ehh, unless we're in a position where AFK players are actually causing issues (IE capping server client slots, clogging zones etc), I can't say I agree. How many non afk players are willing to be anymore social than an AFK? If someone randomly starts trying to socialise with me whilst I'm in Limsa, you can guarantee I'm noping the heck out of there.

And no, coming from MMOs like FFXI and Everquest, empty hub zones just don't feel good at all. FFXIV does a great job of encouraging people to still use prior areas and auto kicking people entirely unnecessarily would harm that to no end.

There's just no benefit to it at this point in time IMO.

Seriously, no matter what time I log into the game there is a queue, and it’s all because people AFK constantly, especially in Limsa. I don’t get it. If you’re not going to be actively playing due to work, sleep, school, whatever… why not just log off? Are you that lazy that you can’t be bothered to log back into the game? Some people do this for days…

Also if it’s because you want to show off your character/glams, no one cares. People become desensitized to it and you don’t look nearly as cool as you think you do.

I loved it when if you weren’t playing, you would be kicked from the server to make room for others. That needs to be a permanent feature, because being AFK for ling periods of time adds nothing to the game. It doesn’t make the world feel alive because you cannot interact with AFK players. If anything it makes the game feel even more empty than it has lately when you see the same people every single day just standing around AFK in the same locations. It’s just a nuisance and an eye sore most of the time.

Also, if people are paying to be online, and unless we had a situation like we had when EW launched, there's no reason to kick them off the game they're playing to be online on, no matter if they're AFK or not.

You forgot waiting to get in, and then having to reenter my house, all while trying to fit going to the bathroom and getting coffee into a timed break. But hey, I guess some people don't have to keep a schedule.

Did you conveniently forget the 1 min wait to log in ? That is due to the way SE login servers work which is to log people in batches instead of individually ?

Also full blast no to any afk kick, it's not needed with the population we have, when queues get in the thousands and thousands in DT sure (and even then, meh really, not for it), but as of right now no.

Yeah no. Removing afk players won’t help the queue. If the queue was affected by players already logged in, I’d never have to wait in one while playing on Materia lol
