I mean, we still have half a year+ until the next expansion so doing it 6 months early for no reason isn't valid in my eyes either. I could understand doing it the week before as a prep measure but I feel that people should also have some form of awareness of how expansions work here (unless they're brand new of course). Either way, they'll temporarily turn on the AFK kick and then after a couple weeks or a month it'll go back off again.
I appreciate being able to stay logged in overnight if I want to and it's not hurting anything by doing it now when there isn't server congestion to speak of (except maybe Aether but that's a self-made problem in my eyes).
I wasn’t aware that the queue was to slow down the login process to protect the server. Regardless though, AFK players should be removed. It makes the game feel artificially alive, but in actuality it’s just empty. You cannot socialize with an AFK player. I don’t care to see players with synchronized emotes, or playing dead, or showing off their half naked characters in the same place every single day. It adds no value to the game and it ruins the atmosphere.
So you'd rather have the game be emptier than it is if none of those players were there? Adding in the AFK timer isn't going to make those people suddenly play the game lol. You'll just see an empty Limsa outside of people macro-crafting in the corners, people screaming venue ads and sprouts running to their quests.I wasn’t aware that the queue was to slow down the login process to protect the server. Or is this just a "I don't want skin showing in my game/serious vibes only" type of comment?

Has nothing to do with skin or anything like that. I just want the players I see to be people I can interact with. This is supposed to be a social game. It’s the foundation of every MMO. If you don’t want to play, just log out, it isn’t hard to do, and it isn’t even an inconvenience. So you'd rather have the game be emptier than it is if none of those players were there? Yes, i know its not always just "alright everyone go find a seat". But you aren't told "Okay, please wait 2 minutes" while they just stare at you because they are literally doing nothing. In fact, you are usually seated right away if there is any space, and you wait to give your order at your table. You are seated, but orders for the restaurant are staggered so not to overwhelm the kitchen staff.
The Restaurant being the game. The Staff the Login Servers. And the Kitchen the Game Servers.
Only difference being is you are artificially slowed down by the login servers, but when you are in-game you can get instant ques through DF, not having to wait an arbitrary minute or two so the server isnt overwhelmed by so many people queueing into roulettes or whatever.
I mean, you might not view it this way but the game is actually pretty solo-geared outside of dungeon/raid content and venues/roleplay (I mean, even dungeons can be solo content now with the trust system). This is kind of just the environment we have here and it's only been getting worse over the years (especially with Endwalker since they stripped out the Bozja equivalent which was a pretty big social hub). Limsa and the main cities have always been more afk centers than anything else, at least in the 3 years that I've been playing (excluding Balmung Ul'Dah for obvious reasons). The game doesn't provide many social outlets in general though, to be honest. I can't remember the last time I had an actual conversation in a dungeon since half the time people are afraid they'll get reported for what they say or the advice they offer lol.Has nothing to do with skin or anything like that. Have you tried going to venues or player run events?

There are not tiny waiters living in the computer though...Yes, i know its not always just "alright everyone go find a seat". So a living, moving area then? Rather than statues and animatronics that stay in the same place for days on end doing nothing else.So you'd rather have the game be emptier than it is if none of those players were there? I mean, you are right though, if we ignore the people doing stuff after kicking folks that are AFK, it would be completely empty, yeah.
