There’s been lots of threads about this… OP check out the housing forum. Many of us who are in favor of instanced housing have a lot of ideas for how it could work and things we’d like to see.

While the devs have said they like the neighborhood feel of the wards, they know the scarcity is a problem: the question is what they’re willing to do about it, and/or what they are able to do. And lately we’ve seen them experimenting with what they can do in an instances setting… IS being the biggest example. An instanced area can let you place at least 90 outdoor furnishings, and have buildings with open air balconies! There’s discussion of housing mirage, in which you could essentially be able to have any size interior inside any size exterior. How? Because the insides are instanced already, and they can do more there without worrying about server drain. Quoting the translation I found from a patch note reading: “we are promoting specifications such as changing the interior of a house with a completely different size that is scheduled to be in patch 7.x but does not have pillars… a mirage-like setting?” There’s a lot that can be inferred from that statement and some of it we’re just guessing at until then, but the devs are moving to do more with instanced spaces.

Most of those campaigning for instanced housing want it to be an addition to ward housing, NOT a replacement. Let anyone who wants to keep at the lotto go for it, most who want instanced housing just want a place of their own with an indoor and outdoor space to decorate. It’s not going to take away from the “prestige” of the ward owners… easy as it could be to recreate actual ward plots, if they do it at all, you’d probably get one generic plot of each size per neighborhood theme. And that’s fine.

Dynamic housing would be great, sure, but that’s something I don’t see happening with the existing server setup… the wards have to be permanently loaded, whereas instances do not. Now it could be a possibility if they could use the cloud servers to do it, but beyond trying to handle increased logins during Dawntrail release, we don’t really have any statements about any specific plans for how they’re going to use the cloud servers. In a way, it’s a shame they didn’t have them tested and ready to go before they released Dynamis, and had it put on the cloud. A lot of people would’ve been more willing to transfer for the better ping!

But at any rate, they are experimenting with new ideas and new tech. And I’m on the side of having as many options as possible. Adding something that others want doesn’t take anything away from those who already have a scarce resource (or multiple, as the case may be…). We all pay a sub to play, we should all have full access to every feature of the game.
