Why do you think they're running a cloud server test that conveniently drops 50m into people's inventories?

It's a technical limitation, not a willingness limitation. No amount of petitions will make it happen any faster.

Its interesting how if they used their resources for IS to be a full on alternative for housing, people would be a lot happier. Im coping that it winds up becoming that when they drop its final update patch but we dont know.

Would be nice! But I know a lot of people would prefer to have instanced housing separate from the island. Or at the very least, on a nice secluded part of the island without mammets! I created a post about it over the the housing forum (I think it was something like “Instanced Housing Idea: Island Homesteads.”) about the big island you can see just off the coast of the main island and how that could be used for an instanced housing plot… always thought that would be a nice finale to IS. But after 6.5, they’ve only mentioned one update planned for 7.0 and probably not anything too expansive…

I think adding more medium/large homes per ward would be a much better result. Right now there's a ton of small plots that are left unclaimed (mainly in newer wards) and it just makes wards feel/look empty.

Personally I think wards should stay as they are and now with them looking to get interiors an optional upgrade for more spacethere isn’t a need for adding more mediums or large

I agree. And with the cloud server testing, it makes me hope that we might actually get either that or some kind of dynamically expanding ward system soon, since they keep talking about how the cloud servers can expand to meet the needs of their population. Scalability, baby!

When people stop obsessing over homes, there are a lot of unintended benefits for everyone. No more shortage means no more demolition system (unless cbu3 goes full greed mode and just keeps it in), which means no more bitter jaded people hanging around just to log into their house and maintain it. It also means far fewer people making solo FCs for home ownership. Might still get some doing it for the subs, but that's a big time commitment and most people realize that gil's pretty worthless anyway. On the cloud test server, there're more than enough homes for everyone and it's only a week, so nobody cares about homes. This, combined with there being only 2 servers and an actual need to stick together to make queues pop, has led to a kind of free company renaissance. The one I'm in now has over 200 people in it and it grows every day. Back on my main server, nearly everyone I know is just in a solo fc for a house.

I rambled a bit, and housing isn't entirely to blame for the death of large scale free companies (dc travel also did it a blow, same with world travel tbh, and cwlses being better communication tools, etc etc etc) but instanced housing or just housing so abundant that nobody feels a shortage helps literally everyone and there's no real reason to be against it imo. That said, if you visit the housing section on this site you'll find plenty of people who are against any form of addressing housing shortages simply because they suffered in the past and now they want others to suffer too. They're brain damaged. They are not okay.

I think it's more "I've got where I am using this garbage system and I'd be frustrated if they let everyone have what I have with a better system."

For some, seeing everyone having large houses would devalue large houses in their opinion. I personally would love to see everyone have whatever house they want but I also haven't spent thousands of extra dollars on extra accounts/subs to have more houses.

In the end, people put a lot more effort than other (and also put a lot of their finances, I am not the only one) so yeah, it does make sense people should put either the same effort or take longer to get it, larges are the "housing end game" no matter if people like it or not really, and as I mentioned multiple times, SE agrees with that vision, that's why they are so limited.

People can rage at me all they want, in the end SE decides by themselves what to do, and by their action so far they agree with my vision of it.

There are good reasons actually, housing shouldnt be apartments 2.0.

If some of these posters just admit to that because thats clearly whats going on, id have a lot more respect to the honesty instead of trying to play these verbal logistics into why the current system shouldnt be changed.

But they would still have all those extra accounts and extra houses, which most other players will continue not to have. They wouldn't be losing anything. Depending on what SE chose to allow, they could continue getting more. RIFT allowed multiple Dimensions per character, not just per account. Perhaps SE would do the same (amazing gil sink at last) if they did use cloud servers for instanced housing.

Those currently boasting about owning multiple houses could potentially change to boasting about how they own one of each possible housing location in the game.
