There's a way to pull influence from previous games without alienating everyone who hasn't played said game. Having another "love letter to 'x' game" usually just means fans love it and those that have never played it are left wondering what the big deal is.

To be fair, XIV already use like 80% of XI assets. If you see a new enemy in the overworld for any expansion, it's likely just a reskin from a XI monsterOh, good. More content peeled from other games that means nothing unless you've played it.
At least players here are happy, I guess? But I've less interest in Vana'diel than I do IV and Golbez, and that's saying something - and after previous crossovers, I don't exactly have much faith in their ability to make it particularly interesting outside the lens of nostalgia goggles, either. Oh, well.
Hey, what if it's both a FFXIV version of Vana'diel that happens to live on another shard? That's the big question in my mind right now as well. The two XI crossover events already established that travel between the universes is canonically possible and was even referenced in XI, and we have a character from there currently stranded on the Source. So will we be traveling somehow TO XI's Vana'diel or will be getting a XIV version similar to how they retooled Ivalice, the answers can't come soon enough.
edit: and they've already said the shards aren't other FF worlds so hopefully they don't backpedal on that.

if you guys will allow me to go full insane speculation mode, the wind up Mithra minion suggests that Miqo'te evolved from them, and considering the series is named "Echoes of Vana'diel" it makes me believe that not only would XIV have its own version of Vana'diel a la Ivalice, but it's also possible that we could be travelling to the past for the raids, too.

Lol I have never seen those before, but that is hilarious.if you guys will allow me to go full insane speculation mode, the wind up Mithra minion suggests that Miqo'te evolved from them, and considering the series is named "Echoes of Vana'diel" it makes me believe that not only would XIV have its own version of Vana'diel a la Ivalice, but it's also possible that we could be travelling to the past for the raids, too.
They even used the actual word "scorpion harness" in there. Lol those and Subligars.
i just want the gameplay/mechanics to be engaging... but i guess we can already say thsts too much to ask for

Lol and that's only half the joke,
The Scorpion Harness (Subligar being the same) were also common newbie mistakes when you came into the game. You'd be going something like...
"Scorpion Harness? Oh that sounds bad az, lets try that one."
"WTF? Why am I in bondage gear?"
There were a ton of other armors you could wear with similar or better stats, so the only people that wore them were generally only newbies that didn't know any better or people playing a Mithra for the view.
Hence the.... "She wears a traditional scorpion harness rendered in painstaking - and pointless - detail by her Sharlayan creator."
That's the hilarious part.
