I played FFXI for a decade. Unlike XIV, each chunk of MSQ in each expansion in FFXI was a unique story. Of the expansions, Treasures of Aht Urghan seems to blend in the most with the New World in XIV (it's also the home of the Mamool Ja there too) but there's a lot of stuff they could conceivably use from Seekers of Adoulin as well as the other expansions, especially since Moblins are coming in (they were heavily involved in the plot of CoP.)
Base FFXI: 20 years after a big war, the three nations are at a standstill. Regional territory control is now done based on the activities and battles of various adventures allied with those nations. Each MSQ is unique for each of the three nations. In Windurst, you're trying to solve the mystery of Cardians gone nuts. In San d'Oria, you get involved with the succession battle between the two princes. In Bastok.... I actually don't remember, it was so goddamn boring. Cid and airships? Cid's grandaughter? I don't think we'll pull anything from those stories. HOWEVER: There is an alternate timeline called Dynamis that was the OG raid series in FFXI, whereupon you dimension hop the time stream to the timeline where the three allied nations lost the war and the Shadowlord won. He's now Dynamis Lord. And you solve the mystery of what happened to an expeditionary party in Xarcabard. Pulling from this timeline is possible, maybe?
Rise of the Zilart: All those ancient superstructures are Zilartian (XI's Allagans) ruins and you have to stop the two Zilartian princes from enacting their evil plans to destroy the world or something. Companion is Lion, a fiery redheaded adopted daughter of the pirate Gilgamesh.
Chains of Promathia: More ancient Zilartian ruins, but you also find out more about the goddess Altana and the god Promathia, who was sealed away by the goddess in some mythology. However, the Moblins believe Promathia was their creator father, so there's more than the old myths say going on. Companion is Prishe, an accidental immortal.
Treasures of Aht Urghan: Honestly the best plot of the XI expansions and my personal favorite. You have to help the puppetmaster Aphmau (the companion) stop the grand vizier of Aht Urghan from blowing up the timelines again. This is one of the likely candidates for the crossover. We already got some of this with Arrapago (ripped straight out of XI.)
Wings of the Goddess: You travel back in time 20 years to help stop the merging of the alternate Dynamis timeline with the current "good end" timeline. Companion is some dancer halfling, forgot her name.
Seekers of Adoulin: You travel to the new world in XI to stop Dracula from taking over the world. This expansion also used the same Greenwrath thing that The Black Shroud should have had, but turned it into an open world FATE type system with active battles. I never finished this plot because I started grad school and my static dissolved around the time XIV came out anyway. This is also a good candidate for the crossover.
