These are all stated and deliberate limitations of the free trial. They have always been limitations of the free trial since it was expanded into its current form.

Being locked out of this roulette because you did the story too slowly is NOT an intended limitation of the trial. That's not why the ilvl sync was introduced. It's an accidental consequence of a badly designed fix, and a number of other people are also victims of it - new players with road to 80, players who just like to take the story slowly or do it on a certain schedule, completionists about side content. The free trial is just the most obviously egregious example of it because the workarounds people keep suggesting are not valid in their case.

Do you think the developers looked at people outlevelling the story and went "we need to inconvenience these people if they run alliance raid roulette!"? That obviously wasn't the target of this change, so don't act like it was designed to drive revenue, especially since it happened at the same time as they added an entire expansion to the free trial. It was a mistake that is hurting an innocent section of the userbase and it's one that should be fixed by adjusting the way the ilvl requirement is enforced.
