Alliance Raid Now iLvl Locked, Why??

Imagine hitting level 90 early, and you're locked out of Alliance Raid roulette until you finish Endwalker and do every raid in the game.

Or heck, let's say you accidentally hit 60 during ARR content, and you want tome gear. Whoops, can't get it -- at least not through roulette. Say goodbye to daily roulette bonus and grind manually for tomes. It's your own fault for... playing the game, I guess.

Ah yes.... because level 50 roulette and main scenario roulette are also blocked off from you and eliminate you from being able to acquire poetics, and you don't have any access to the market board if you did want to do alliance raid roulette...

Personally, I see no problem with people being temporarily barred from just one roulette for the day once they've gotten themselves that far beyond the level cap for the content they're currently playing.

Blocked off, no. But Alliance Roulette gave 120 poetics or something like that? Plus the occasional new player bonus?

You personally see no problem with a player receiving less currency for playing the game more because it doesn't affect you.

If a new player chooses not to use the resources at their disposal to gain the item level required to queue for the roulette, then you're right. I don't feel bad about it. I literally put out there that you can use the market board to meet the new item level requirement. Or can do like I've done for friends in the past and just when to the level 61/71/81 vendor and buy gear for them and give it to them.

New players are more resourceful than you think. They don't need you on here white knighting for them.

Free trial is, by design, there to incentivize people to buy the full game. Or are you also going to complain that people on free trials can't form parties with other players (they can join, but not form) they also can't hold more than a certain amount of gil. If this one raid is the major driver of them playing the game, then you're just proving the point of the free trial, which is to get them to buy the game and bring in revenue. I also have no problem with free trial players also being, again, temporarily locked out of one roulette.

These are all stated and deliberate limitations of the free trial. They have always been limitations of the free trial since it was expanded into its current form.

Being locked out of this roulette because you did the story too slowly is NOT an intended limitation of the trial. That's not why the ilvl sync was introduced. It's an accidental consequence of a badly designed fix, and a number of other people are also victims of it - new players with road to 80, players who just like to take the story slowly or do it on a certain schedule, completionists about side content. The free trial is just the most obviously egregious example of it because the workarounds people keep suggesting are not valid in their case.

Do you think the developers looked at people outlevelling the story and went "we need to inconvenience these people if they run alliance raid roulette!"? That obviously wasn't the target of this change, so don't act like it was designed to drive revenue, especially since it happened at the same time as they added an entire expansion to the free trial. It was a mistake that is hurting an innocent section of the userbase and it's one that should be fixed by adjusting the way the ilvl requirement is enforced.

So you're telling me people who pay for the game have access to more of the game than people who don't pay? Like the end-goal of the trial is to get you to part with money? So obviously this is your first MMO because I don't think you realise just how forgiving the FF14 free trial is. Base game, expansions, constantly updated, play as long as you want, still allowed to use the chat... You know most free trials give you a 24 hour play time and you get like a handful of quests?

I'm not white knighting, I have a bone to pick in this fight because it also impacts me. You, on the other hand, seem to be intentionally obtuse on an issue that clearly doesn't impact you.

You're level 90. You're not on a free trial. You have options to solving the problem for minimum item level required of your own accord. If you choose not to take advantage of those solutions, then that's on you. This isn't any different from every major patch losing access to expert roulette and the minimum item level required to queue in being raised. You adjust and get the gear you need to run the content you want to run, or you don't run it. It's that simple.

You have every right to be upset if you want to be, but you're in the minority of players being negatively impacted here while the rest of the player base has been impacted by people cheesing item level for a decade now, and Square finally said "enough"

I'm not sure what more you want that wouldn't just cause the same problem to pop back up or would, in all likelihood, be impossible to implement with the game's existing code.
