Stop making threads about youtubers.
Stop making threads about youtubers.
In all honesty the best way to counter threads that you don't like is to just create threads that you do. It could be about a particular aspect of the game that you enjoy, asking people who their forum poster is or making a thread to share tips for new players.
Part of me, the very jaded part of me, thinks it's likely that the yubtuber thread spam is partially active because the authors *know* it annoys people.
Like a few other topics I could mention. When folks are unwilling to contain their discussions to one or two pre-existing threads, and instead feel the need to make new ones constantly, it's because they want the visual clutter. The annoyance.
Titanmen didn't make threads because he really cared. He did it to be annoying.
As such, yeah we could try to up the signal to noise ratio, but that still just increases noise over all. It doesn't reduce it.
If communities (lol) could ever band together and make annoyance and trolling boring to the troll, the trolls would get bored and move away.
30 years of internet has more or less proven that this is impossible however.
You actually bring up an important point if people would just stop replying to this person his posts would drop off the front page.Part of me, the very jaded part of me, thinks it's likely that the yubtuber thread spam is partially active because the authors *know* it annoys people.

Enjoy Life you only get one.
Exactly, very good choice of words and analogy. I was out of WoW long before it went the way it is now, but even in my longest staying period within an MMO, Gw2, the community used FFXIV as a threat. "Things suck here, I'm going to FFXIV". I have to say I was one of the people who fell for it. I hadn't even played FF and I kept comparing GW2 to it because it was supposed to be the golden standard for MMOs.You know, I think both the group who thought their favorite streamer betrayed them for stop playing, and the group who thought they stop playing because of the community - assuming they're being genuie (although I think the latter is just trolls) - are just ... naive.
I watched a few of these "ex-WoW" streamers compared FF14 to WoW around 2 years ago and it was ... cringe. Like, I life FF14, but the praise and comparison these streamers had for the game back then was so out of proportion that I was like "ok, FF14 is good but it's not THAT good." So it became obvious to me fairly early that it wouldn't last. One, it definitely felt more like the "next hot thing" moment. But secondly, and more importantly, I felt these streamers were just borrowing FF14 and its community as a beating stick and outlet for their dissatisfaction with WoW. In short and bluntly: FF14 and the more gullible portion of its community was used, as simple as that.
Look, I went away from Gw2 because of how mismanaged it is, and because of other issues with the longevity of content and lack of future proofing, and people said there was this promised land of MMOs where all my grievances with Gw2 would be forgotten and honestly...We're kind of in the same situation. I'm still enjoying FFXIV and I don't see myself stopping soon, but I learnt my lesson

Why are you still here if the community is so bad?
I think we all know the real reason.
Isn't it interesting that you haven't quit yet? Despite how 'bad' this community is?
Correction. He's a twitch streamer who happens to have a YouTube.
In regards to the subject though. He still talks good about FFXIV to this day. The reason he stopped playing was due to his viewers annoying him to play it at all times. And we all know the guy is notorious for spending most of his streams doing reacts.
He still talks about how he needs to come back to play it though.
Pretty much this. He actually was enjoying himself but the rabid FFXIV community kept bugging him because he wasnt binging on the game like other streamers and most likely gave him such a bad experience that he honestly just quietly left. Many people who play this game know this isn't the case. There's another thread up on the r/ffxivdiscussion subreddit that raises this issue. Link for those who are curious: https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxivdiscus...xicaggressive/
As for Asmongold's case, I'll copy and paste this quote here:
I hate this community so damn much. Not because of Asmon's sake but the overal shared mentality shared here is exactly why everyone us so damn cringe with this game.
Becuase Endwalker is bad and the community for this game is bad.
Is that what you wanted to hear? I mean its true but, everyone knows it, even the people who deny it know it.
