You can believe or not believe something, I find GNB easier to do rotationally since there's nothing to upkeep. The things with CDs you line up with No Mercy windows, and otherwise the base rotation is "don't overcap" using Gnashing if you have it or Burst Strike if you don't to prevent overcapping. There's some nuance you can work with it, but all the information you need is easily accessible on your bar and Job. You can mock me for it, but as I've noted before, DoTs and non-gauge self-buffs are easy to lose in the UI. GNB doesn't have something like Surging Tempest to keep up/fall off. That makes it easier to me. You can find this hard to believe all you want, but I'm serious when I say stuff like that and DoTs are a pita to the way my brain works. On the other hand, GNB? No Mercy's CD I can see right there on my bar, and that's the anchor point for my rotation with the rest being just keep pressing 1-2-3 and Burst Strike/Gnasing Fang. PLD has a similar situation with FoF/Req.

Was there not some bosses who took more or less damage depending on the weapon type?

So you know, this is false. For example, Fleche on RDM is Piercing damage. It's just not particularly relevant since there's nothing using the mechanics anymore. Closest thing is Blue Carnivale for some of the achievements. If you have them, look up Sharpened Knife and Triple Trident (15 and 81, respectively) BLU spells, the former being Slashing and the latter Piercing damage. One reason RDM was strong in PotD is there's a boss (I forget which, though) where the adds are super weak to Wind damage, such that a shot of Veraero can take them down pretty quickly.

While not overly relevant, the damage types still exist and abilities still probably carry various damage type tags, they just don't do anything in most situations.
