That would probably just compound the problem though, because other jobs would be able to gearswap to increase their performance and just end up widening the gap.Just to play devils advocate, he said it won't happen unless it's needed.
Having just said that; the only reason I can ever see gear swapping being needed, is if classes and jobs somehow become horribly unbalanced after some future patch and SE needs a quick fix to save the game.

Dull attacks from Peptaru! Soon enough he will be editing people's quotes to things they never said!
While I agree, the player should be prepared. What happens when a fight starts off MP heavy, but then turns into an AoE Elemental conundrum that requires people to swap to ele sets, and DR sets on the whim?
Preparing for fights is a must. Definitely. But what about fights that change in the aspects of what kind of gear you need?
For example: Tiamat. On ground I wore Haste/DR. But in Air I needed fire res.
Pandemonium Warden: Required all kinds of gear!
But my question to you, good sir, is this:
What if gear swapping was instant, and didn't make characters blink? Inventory space is already massive. What if there were ways to implement gear swapping that isn't as clunky as the system in FFXI?
Why are you quoting XI fights? This is XIV, these mobs and fights are not present in the game, nor is the need for gear swapping. It's not because XI had gear swaps as strategy for fighting that every MMO should do it too. There is plenty of ways to make a fight dynamic. Instead of swaping gear to adapt to a change in battle, why not just use your head and adapt the way you fight, skill used etc instead?
It's not stupid. It's been a part of many games. This is one of those situations where if you don't want to gear swap then don't! I won't hold it against you. Just don't stand in the way of people that do want it. There were plenty of people in FFXI that didn't gear swap. You didn't HAVE to gear swap to win. It made it easier...it made it more fun (imo)...it gave me more things to strive for.
The point of an MMO is to win? That's news. Here I thought it was to meet people and make friends and socialize while having a common goal. To each his own, I suppose - oh wait, I guess not!
Because if a BLM goes in geared to land stun/heavy/bind/dot he can't deal anywhere near enough damage. If a WHM goes in to max cure, their pro/stoneskin suffers... obviously blm will gear for damage, obviously a whm will gear for cure. How many WHM's you see runnign around with a Tremor Wand with VIT materia on it? How many BLM's you see stacking nothing but magic accuracy and PIE? Few to none. SO what is the point of having abilities that will be totally unreliable/rarely used unless you can swap some gear to make it viable? Why are you quoting XI fights? The point of an MMO is to play with people. If you want to socialize and make friends go on Facebook or dating site.
You do realize your solution is a quote of XI? Because the other mmos out there are all using gear swaps, nobody but XI has a solution to these don't they? I never realized how broken all mmo where compared to XI....Because if a BLM goes in geared to land stun/heavy/bind/dot he can't deal anywhere near enough damage. So instead of using a million of other way to fix what you mentioned above, ways used in tons of other games, we should just take crap from XI, a solution that is inferior to anything else out there... is that it?
Seriously, i get that some people love XI and enjoy it's features but you people need to go out there and try other MMORPGs, there a lot of good ones and all have different styles. XIV is not XI and will not be. So every time we got something needing fix, use your head and try to come up with an original solution instead of just asking to copy/paste XI.
Tanking and DD jobs/class is constantly smashing actions left and right to do combos, since this is a faster gameplay compared to ffxi. Can you imagine how dumb it'll look when you're swapping for all your action skills? especially if you're a paladin.
I don't see a need for it, because we have materia, accessories, and gear sets. They're working the way its suppose to.

I think you missed my point. Which is that it's not needed now and unless SE does something to drastically change that, I can't really foresee a situation where it would be needed.
So instead of offering a solution yourself you personally attack someone else's. Lemme guess you'd rather them just make some uber gear that has +999 to every stat that way everything works all the time! Yay!You do realize your solution is a quote of XI? Let's hear it Einstein what's your magical non-gear swapping solution to being able to make all aspects of a job viable whenever a player chooses to utilize it? Hmmm?
