Legitimate reasons why many of you do NOT like Gear Swapping

Gear Swapping is common in RPGs.

I need a logically sound argument as to why you do not want gear swapping.

Someone said, "it promotes elitism".

I say gear swapping is beneficial for SE, the worlds' economies, and game play.


BTW Mages can gear swap, melee can't. You have a flaw SE. Fix it and give us gear swapping in ACTIVE mode.

There have already been tons of "legitimate" reasons given in the plethora of other threads already started regarding gear swap. Your acceptance, or lack thereof, of those reasons is irrelevant. It is obvious nobody is going to convince the other side of their view so these discussions are pointless.

There is also no reason to continue to create threads on this topic. Post in the existing ones.

Being an elitist doesn't mean your a bad person. I am an elitist. I want the best of the best of the best. I am the one who tries to penta-socket perfect tier IV materia because nothing else is as good. HOWEVER. That doesn't mean I am a bad person. It just means I am determined to be the best and I won't settle for second place.

I really hate how people automatically put elitism and douchebaggery hand-in-hand. If someone looks down on you because of your gear it just means they are an ***hole, it doesn't matter if they are an elitist or not. It doesn't bother me if someone has gear that's not as good as mine. I am willing to offer advice if they want some but I don't be a prick and say: "You suck get better gearz..." At the same time whenever I see someone with better gear then me I think to myself "FUUU I can be doing so much better...".

I am all for gear swapping. I like being able to maximize my potential for everything I am capable of doing. Making me choose to only be proficient in one aspect of my job is like telling a basketball player they have to choose between being good at offense or defense, but not both, because *god forbid* that would be the dreaded elitist syndrome!!!

Last time I watched a war movie I saw a bow that shot magical arrows and a tidal wave caused by a person jumping into the water from the heavens. It's a game, we should be able to swap gear for the same reason that a gladiator can't use a spear, an archer can use melee weaponskills at max archer range, and lancers can use ranged archer weaponskills. For the same reason I can set Keen Flurry on a CNJ or THM even though there isn't a single weaponskill in the game I can use.

It doesn't really have to make sense.

Just to play devils advocate, he said it won't happen unless it's needed.

Having just said that; the only reason I can ever see gear swapping being needed, is if classes and jobs somehow become horribly unbalanced after some future patch and SE needs a quick fix to save the game.
