    Now we are getting somewhere… absolutely I regularly back up my settings… so easy to try what you suggest. Should I ditch that folder, then do a restore from the saved settings before launching the game?

    I have historically just cut the whole folder and pasted to the desktop, but that was before server backups were a thing. If you're backed up do it however you like. I just hope it works, this game can be soooo frustrating to diagnose.

    Not to mention someone in my FC says an uninstall also wipes that folder (with my configs) out. Frankly I don't trust win10 at all, so it doesn't surprise me some built in function may not work as expected. BUT following you suggestion, I don't have to download 90G like I already have!

    Interesting I am being ignored in posting to the tech support forum as was suggested...

    If you are worried about your configs being wiped out you can back it up in the game at character selection screen .for 90 gb download you don't have to do it . You can try to save the whole folder in a external external hard disk .reset your windows with local install .it will install fresh copy of windows 10 and then before you start the ffxiv launcher you copy and paste the whole folder to same installation place that you gave when you first installed the game
    And if you want to like avoid using windows 10 . Like I had enough problems with pc and windows 11 crap .then I bought ps5 and I am playing the ffxiv game with my wired keyboard and mouse connected to ps5 and I don't have to deal with any of the windows crap
