Crap, all was fine for a couple of hours yesterday, today boom, froze with a buzz again. Could it have been the last winblowz update I did? I do have a ticket in so maybe they can help me...

Interesting I am being ignored in posting to the tech support forum as was suggested...
If you are worried about your configs being wiped out you can back it up in the game at character selection screen .for 90 gb download you don't have to do it . You can try to save the whole folder in a external external hard disk .reset your windows with local install .it will install fresh copy of windows 10 and then before you start the ffxiv launcher you copy and paste the whole folder to same installation place that you gave when you first installed the game
And if you want to like avoid using windows 10 . Like I had enough problems with pc and windows 11 crap .then I bought ps5 and I am playing the ffxiv game with my wired keyboard and mouse connected to ps5 and I don't have to deal with any of the windows crap

PS5 may be an option some day, only problem is the big TV is in my bedroom, not so easy to use mouse/keyboard lying down.

The saving of config files (both to the server and locally) always seemed not to work... my buddy told me exactly here the 12 or so config files lived so I manually saved those off. Finally bit the bullet then did the full re-install. Cross fingers, all seemed OK yesterday.

I fail to see the "Users" folder in File Explorer but I DO see my folder. Cut does exactly nothing. I DID manage to copy it to my desktop BUT when I went to delete it, it said it would be because permission. I do NOT see any way to "run as administrator" by right clicking on it. Thought maybe click on the exe, BUT File Exploder tells me it doesn't exist. Eventually I found it (search gave a ton of results), raan as admin, it launching what I take is another instance BUT same issue, tells me I can not delete it without permissions
Sounds like your Windows file/folder permissions are a bit screwed up.

Assuming that Windows is installed on your C drive:
On a default installation FFXIV should install under "C:\Program Files\Square Enix" (if memory serves - I install games onto a different drive to improve performance).
The configuration, screenshot and settings files should be under "C:\Users\<your username>\My Games\Final Fantasy . . ."

Config files should be able to copy/cut and paste no problem without requiring admin prompt (unless you're trying to paste them into a restricted location such as the root of C:\, or Windows folder).

You could check your permissions by right-clicking a file and going to Properties > Security - look for either explicit permissions for your username or the generic "Authenticated Users" group (or if your account is an administrator look at that group too) and see what permissions have been provided. You should have at least modify permissions to everything in the FFXIV folders otherwise the game won't be able to save updates and likely crash out.

I don't think they should mess with their settings now that they have done full reinstall of the game and if the game is working perfectly
