Sadly, they can't just shut it down without a good business reason or unless they somehow have a new golden goose that can carry all the other projects and also sacrifice it's own resources on SE's wasteful endeavors. They have had multiple flops and FF14 is mostly the only thing keeping the company afloat and what is keeping FFXIV afloat? The paying customers.

At $1.20 AUD per day? Yes, it is. Thats what i pay, for literally thousands of hours of gameplay. Do the math.

Again, correct. The quality of the game and everything in it is is testament to the passion and care the team puts into FF 14. They set the example as to what a games company should be like.

Thing is every expansions quantity is getting less and less and now patches only drop every 4 months with droplets of content. Quality of the content is also getting lessened. I don't think this is a good example to what a game company should be like, yes they have some good points but they also have bad points as well.
