I have little sympathy for people that simply accept the status quo and accept any and all efforts by corporations to make their product less consumer friendly, and profit MORE off of the work of others. Keep it locked down I say. Force the CEO to dump all those moderators and see how reddit functions without them. If it holds up, hey, fair enough, but I don't think it'll be that simple.

You can be in favor of improvements without blacking out entire communities. I’ll choose an imperfect product over no product. If Reddit removed the mods I’m sure others will line up to volunteer. Not even all mods were in agreement in other communities over the blackout. Mods can also resign if they feel they can’t do their job without the third party apps. Reddit claims 93 percent of moderation actions are taken on desktop.

The solution should be for Reddit to make such tools available themselves. Else the communities may deteriorate and and their hand will be forced as users make the decisions for themselves to leave.

God what a terrible take, this is like when employers reduce the salaries of their employees by multiple hundreds dollars because $$$

"if you aint happy just leave"

you are literally saying the same "just remove them and get new mods that will accept anything we say no matter what it is"

yikes, what an absolute ragdoll you are, 0 spine/backbone, if people listened to you they'd just let anybody run over them like a carpet

It's not that the mods are lazy. 3rd party tools are responsible from preventing the site itself from being overridden by spam and bots. We're not just discussing convenience features here.

I dislike a lot of egotistical moderators but I'd be lying if I said this was something they could handle without the third party tools that use the reddit API.

Honestly I think reddit is shooting itself in the foot and making a terrible decision if those tools are needed to keep the subs free from spam and bots. They should have their own version of these tools before making sweeping changes. I don't support the changes at all without a solution already in place. I think the 2 day blackout was fine. It opened some eyes to an issue that may otherwise have gotten no attention. Holding communities hostage at this point is excessive.

I don't agree with the extended blackout. I think it harms users more than Reddit. It would be like someone slapping a 6 pack of bud light out of my hands in a Target because they are boycotting. It's my decision to make.
