How is it admirable and respectable to be a nuisance to 99% of people who use that subI think the internet would be a better place without Reddit and I hope the entire website collapses. But hopes and dreams are free and that's very unlikely to happen. My own personal biases aside, I think it's admirable and respectable that people are taking a stand for what they believe in, even if I don't agree with them. I feel the same way when the eco-terrorists glue themselves in a canoe onto the highway during peak hour. Yes it's annoying and inconvenient, but at least they're putting themselves out there for a cause greater than themselves because of their convictions which is more than most people would ever do. Apparently, that includes you, who would go even further and gladly throw people who have worked for years to build that community under the bus for the sake of your own convenience.

Why post here? You are plainly aware there is nothing you, or anyone here can do about the protest.
Don't touch me there
I have little sympathy for people that simply accept the status quo and accept any and all efforts by corporations to make their product less consumer friendly, and profit MORE off of the work of others. Keep it locked down I say. Force the CEO to dump all those moderators and see how reddit functions without them. If it holds up, hey, fair enough, but I don't think it'll be that simple.

You can be in favor of improvements without blacking out entire communities. I’ll choose an imperfect product over no product. If Reddit removed the mods I’m sure others will line up to volunteer. Not even all mods were in agreement in other communities over the blackout. Mods can also resign if they feel they can’t do their job without the third party apps. Reddit claims 93 percent of moderation actions are taken on desktop.I have little sympathy for people that simply accept the status quo and accept any and all efforts by corporations to make their product less consumer friendly, and profit MORE off of the work of others. The solution should be for Reddit to make such tools available themselves. Else the communities may deteriorate and and their hand will be forced as users make the decisions for themselves to leave.
God what a terrible take, this is like when employers reduce the salaries of their employees by multiple hundreds dollars because $$$You can be in favor of improvements without blacking out entire communities. "if you aint happy just leave"
you are literally saying the same "just remove them and get new mods that will accept anything we say no matter what it is"
yikes, what an absolute ragdoll you are, 0 spine/backbone, if people listened to you they'd just let anybody run over them like a carpet
Pretty sure they did yeah, not a surprise to see that take from them I guess

It's not that the mods are lazy. 3rd party tools are responsible from preventing the site itself from being overridden by spam and bots. We're not just discussing convenience features here. You can be in favor of improvements without blacking out entire communities. I’ll choose an imperfect product over no product. I dislike a lot of egotistical moderators but I'd be lying if I said this was something they could handle without the third party tools that use the reddit API.

Honestly I think reddit is shooting itself in the foot and making a terrible decision if those tools are needed to keep the subs free from spam and bots. They should have their own version of these tools before making sweeping changes. I don't support the changes at all without a solution already in place. I think the 2 day blackout was fine. It opened some eyes to an issue that may otherwise have gotten no attention. Holding communities hostage at this point is excessive. It's not that the mods are lazy. 3rd party tools are responsible from preventing the site itself from being overridden by spam and bots. I don't agree with the extended blackout. I think it harms users more than Reddit. It would be like someone slapping a 6 pack of bud light out of my hands in a Target because they are boycotting. It's my decision to make.

The thing is though, you basically described that which has existed through out history.Work on migrating to literally any other platform or create a new platform. The resources are there and it's inevitable anyways.
It's like the people that are hosting this blackout don't realize why they're holding it. If Reddit doesn't change their mind about the API from what I know the site will just die. There would be no point in continuing because apparently even auto-moderation tools won't be there. And guess what? The CEO isn't going to change his mind. The only way he learns is when his site dies. You can either stay on that site which is a sinking ship and try to protest or you can do something that's actually productive.
As far as myself and anyone else is concerned you're putting an awful lot of work in for nothing when you could be working towards an actual solution that's not going to bother anyone.
Explained by people more eloquent than we are.
Regardless of intent, it's basicly sit on knees than die on feet kind of thing.
[When it should be live on feet, than die on knees]
The reason people can't move, is cause there is no other Mainstream alternative that exists for it. If it was the two respectable streaming platform + the two questionable streaming platforms. people have choices when one of them fucks up. <But it ain't that great between them either unless people cause shifts.>
"Protests" don't do things unless it actively does discomfort that cannot be denied.
<even if they try to turn you against each other. you only need to keep the pressure til it snaps>
[if they replaced every single. moderator there, it only needs the new one to be the exact same. The inverted "new boss, same as the old". Instead of the Community vs itself.]
In the end, I'm only supportive of this, cause it gives reason/pushes for information to be posted in a simple, easy solution in other locations, rather than the lazy(join our discord or else IS, no info Twitter, etc.) options.
When there is alot that can be used, that is ease of use, Yet are not.
Also let it be remembered, the fact people are letting the CEO call moderators "Landed Gentry" who aren't even paid, or actually put in instead of getting out<in the majority>.
Yet those two words seems to be doing damn well to get people against each other.

The current group of moderators probably doesn't want that though. Let's be honest with ourselves, while this situation sucks and it's mostly Reddit's fault as company, sub reddit moderators are taking it out on the userbase themselves.
Besides that, migrating could potentially ruin plenty of subreddit moderators. There's a chance their communities won't have nearly as big of a following. They'd have less power to flex.
No. It's much easier for them to butt heads against the CEO and try to change things back on the platform where they still have some semblance of power while holding the entire userbase hostage. The discomfort that protests are supposed to cause is not supposed to be aimed at the common person but at the people causing the discomfort. It's true that historically there has been collateral damage in a lot of protests but can we ever deny that's anything more than tyranny of the majority? Either way, we live in a modern world and we're capable of creating better solutions to these problems. You just choose not to.
