You're allowed to be offended all you want but the expectations that random strangers need to care about you being offended is where I have issues with people nowadays.'Not being an asshole' is BS?
The phrase used was "offense is taken, not given" which is used to absolve oneself of responsibility. "I can say whatever the hell I want and it's your fault if it offends you". It's victim blaming. That means intentionally offending people, however they decided to excuse it afterwards.
If that's not what was meant, maybe try using your words more carefully so that they convey what you mean? See? How words mean things?
