Yeah I used toon before in something XIV related and someone jumped on me about being a WoW player. While I did play WoW, I started with EQ and I ran a guild, my characters were toons, and while I know it has a different meaning now, twinking was just passing high level gear to your alt.

As to the boat conversation, even back in EQ it was silent on the boat sometimes. After your 100000th 30+ minute trip seeing nothing but water - zone line - water - zone line - water, the novelty started to wear off. That's when the boat didn't bug and drop you into the sea between continents to drown and lose everything on your corpse. It was common to stick your stuff in the bank before taking a boat ride and getting it back when you were back on dry land assuming you could survive the naked run to someplace that had a bank. Nothing attacked you in EQ so XI did that differently but it's still very wearying to have to spend the entire night before you want to camp somewhere getting to where you're going to camp the next night.

EverQuest still exists and is still getting expansions. But it has a very niche playerbase. If people really wanted these things back, the games that still do them wouldn't be ghost towns. MMO playerbases have changed and the most successful current MMOs have learned to adapt to this changed mindset.

And a lot of the battles require those support jobs to basically stand still only using their buffing moves/cures on cooldown and nothing else (though I think the most recent, recent content is only 6 man, so it has everyone have to get in on meleeing/dpsing).
And yet once you show up to a party people are happy to have a new member. Can't say I share your experience. There will always be people like that but the same is true for the opposite. And the beauty of XI is that you can make a lot of stuff work and still have diversity. Something XIV struggles with on a fundamental level.

In XI you were happy to see others,
in XIV you see them as a hindrance to your personal FFlogs.

I think this is one of the things I did and currently still love about XI was that you can experiment, one of the more recent things I did a few years ago in Reisenjima was trio one of the T3 as Run/Geo/Cor which at the time was considered to be extremely tough to do. A crowd showed up and just watched us take attempts at it until we managed to get it down and it was really fun and encouraging. I think people are focusing on XI from 2007-2011 when the current game is a lot more accessible but it still has the core things that make it fun such as proper buff management, skill chains, magic bursts etc. Combat in XIV just feels nowhere near as fun for me but I’m sure someone will pop in to tell me how I’m wrong and how all the homologized jobs are better in XIV currently.

This is what I'm asking for, it could even reuse the XIV assets or whatever new MMO releases in the future to cut on costs, but I do think it would be popular. People get hung up on the hard core aspect of this, or that it was really difficult, but TBH most of the gameplay is chill and just require people thinking things through. It was midcore at best, and just because things were actually dangerous in a dont be stupid about it kind of way. But nothing approximating an ultimate fight or even an extreme fight in XIV.

The only people that talk about it are a small swath of FF fans. It wouldn't be profitable for SE. Also, you'd have to change so much of it for it to not completely fail on launch it wouldn't be recognizable as 11. It's an old dated game with outdated game designs.

Plus, I'd rather we actually get a new game than a tired old one.

There's my take on it. Are you happy? Are we done?

Or do you want new players to experience the wonders of 50 gil and an adventurer's coupon level of quest excitement. Nursing homes are more engaging than 11. Now, if you excuse me, I have to take a knee for 5 minutes to refill my mana.

i mean if you came to 1.0 when it first launch they gave the players of both pretty nifty discount for FFXI. I think they should offer that incentive again.

you know Refresh gear exists right??

FFXIV is an old game with old boring design and battle system, Walk out of AoE, press 1,2,3 and a occasional Cool down button, rise and repeat.

FFXI fights are unpredictable, engaging, and always have you on your toes, it's definitely not a bore fest like FFXIV with it's very scripted fights

go ahead and fight a very hard Voidwatch Notorious Monster in FFXI, like Uptala , I will wait

you probably didn't even make it far, went to the starting zones, didn't have a party, got killed by a rabbit and rage quit

There's still the 21th anniversary going on. You can get the whole game plus all expansions for 10 bucks, and comes with a month of playtime.

However, the klunkiness of many elements of that game is really a downer, starting already with PO registration and account managing.

I can see some stick to the game through sheer stubborness, but likely the most will bounce off of it after a few days.

I loved FFXI - was my very first MMO when it came out and have some great memories of it. I still occasionally jump on to have a trip down memory lane and I feel a lot of elements of it are still superior to FFXIV to this day, though it's wasn't really a game geared towards casual players - you had to invest time into it and have patience (several hours sat around waiting for parties).

Personally I'd love to see the next FF online game be a bit of a mash up of both 11 and 14 as they both have some great qualities the other lacks - for example, (IMO) 11's classes have more unique identity to them than 14, the quests to obtain them are much more fun and I love the sub-job system. In 14 I love the single-player story experience and obviously the graphics are a vast improvement too.

Who knows if SE will do another online FF, personally I hope they do.

I got to the desert. I was grinding mobs in the desert, and it was so boring I wanted to die, and I stopped playing. I think I got to like level 20. It wasn't very fun at all. But nobody should have to justify really anything when it comes to an opinion about the game. I played it. I'm not telling you the endgame sucks or is boring because I never got there. I had to deal with the toxic and mean community that hated me from the get-go because I played on the xbox, and I was new.

So an unwelcoming game that is less fun than waiting in a line didn't hook me. Hell, looking back at it, hard labor seemed preferable than playing it.

So no, you can make fun of me all you want, but when they listen to you and the game dies, don't come crying to me.
