I still want to be missing a scouting job, no? Can we get like swashbuckler? We get a cutlass and a pistol. Sure, everyone is going to go all Jack Sparrow, but we already have Limsa for its theme. We can even use the old Rouge class hall. Why mot it could be fun?

I agree, a sword n' pistol job would be really cool. Maybe the return of Corsair?

Reaper was the most exciting reveal for me of all the jobs they've released and revealed.

Whilst I would probably be excited for any job, I would like to see them deviating from releasing new jobs, and just working on being more innovative and creative with the jobs they already have. Granted, I'm very 'casual' in my play in terms of not necessarily interacting with raids, and in many cases extreme primals.

There's just an unshakeable feeling when playing them, and leveling them, that every job just feels very... Similar to play, it doesn't feel overly satisfying going from one job to another, honestly.

Nah, Casters by and large don't go on covers because they don't sell units. Same reason they'll never put a healer on the cover.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

"How to mess up a Job reveal?"

Don't tell people what Role a Job is until super late, even knowing that lots of people think it will be a different Role. As a Healer main, I'm still salty about how they knew people thought DNC would be a new Healer Job, and instead of early on saying "It's going to be a DPS Job", they played it out, kind of stringing people along, until the reveal. DNC had the single worst Job reveal reaction in all of FFXIV's history, and I suspect that was the reason for it.

Be clear up front it's a new Tank/Healer/DPS and if DPS, what subrole.

All things considered, it will PROBABLY be a new Caster, since that makes the most sense. Over the years, it's been like this:

1.0: Game start: 2 Tanks (PLD/WAR - once Jobs patched in), 1 Healer (WHM), 2 Melee (DRK, MNK), 1 Ranged (BRD), 1 Caster (BLM)
2.0: Game restart - that said, we got a new Healer (SCH), Caster (SMN), and Melee (Rogue): 2T/2H/3M/1R/2C
[Note NIN was not added until 2.4, but by the end of ARR, this was the count, not counting Cross-Class non-Job builds.]
[Note here that Roles were considered only Tank, Healer, and DPS at this time, though you needed one of each DPS type for the +5% party damage bonus.]
3.0: New Tank (DRK), Healer (AST), Ranged (MCH): 3T/3H/3M/2R/2C
4.0: New Melee (SAM), Caster (RDM): 3T/3H/4M/2R/3C
[Note that BLU was added in 4.5 as a Caster, but has been a Limited Job its entire run, and so doesn't count in a more general sense - and can do all roles anyway.]
5.0: New Tank (GNB), Ranged (DNC): 4T/3H/4M/3R/3C
[Note here, BEFORE this, Melee, Ranged, and Caster were not considered distinct; they were explicitly made distinct, even in your Jobs page of your Character sheet, in 5.0.]
6.0: New Healer (SGE), Melee (RPR): 4T/4H/5M/3R/3C

The most in need of an addition are Ranged and Caster, and of those, Caster has gone the longest without an addition.

The most over-represented is Melee, meaning no new Melee need to be added. Also historically (not that that's ALWAYS a good guide), Melee have been added in every even numbered expansion; 2.4, 4.0, 6.0.

Given all this, the most logical additions would be Caster, then Ranged, then Tank, then Healer, then Caster, then Ranged, and at that point all would be even with 5 representatives.

    .

Of Caster, Green Mage (status afflictions; DoTs in FFXIV terms), Geomancer (as a Caster using nature elemental magics rather than a Healer; so if CNJ was a DPS Job, basically), or Time Mage (Green Mage, just with a bit more support and some Comet/Gravity magic; it and AST step a little too close to one another, though, but I guess GEO would with WHM or more CNJ/leveling WHMs...) are the most likely options.

Then again, they do curveballs from time to time. For all we know, they could add Runic Knight as a Tank or something. Just depends on where they want to go with the expansion and what story they want to tell.

    I love the honesty here.

But you are correct in every way. Every single job in the game has been watered down to two concepts. Build Gauge; Spend Gauge.

I think Black Mage is honestly the only semi-unique job at this point with the way you have to weave in and out of Astral/Umbral to keep the flow going. But even then that just leads to building the polyglot gauge and spending it on Xenoglossy.

How to really mess up the job reveal, regardless, though? Don't sufficiently hide that it's the same template as every other job in its role, merely reskinned.
I’d like to know what hints are you speaking about with Geomancer. Not because I don’t want it but just like to hear other peoples reasoning.

Mostly in their mention through the StB AST quest lines, Gosetsu becoming a staff-wielding ascetic (whose staff is that of the GEO mythos).

It might instead hint at something more like Oracle or Onmyoji, but so far the only name those themes have taken on in-game is Geomancer.

They will always add a new job every expansion. A new job is the expectation with expansions and a big selling point to get people to resub, return, or anything else. It's marketing. Job balance or not, they would never not release a new job. It would be a huge buzz kill bummer to the entire world and be a bad way to advertise the expansion. Even people who don't play this game are interested in hearing about the new jobs. Some might even give the game a chance if a job entices them enough. If they ever didn't release a new job, it would be a huge mistake and every media source ever would blast them over it.

Honestly, if they said No New Job this time...it would bum people out that were hoping for and discussing what would make sense and be a cool addition....
But then in that Slideshow they fade in - Job Balance and Gameplay Overhaul....Im sure that would Buzz louder then a swarm of Locust. I feel it would have the same effect of selling units, and even inspire people who left, and doubted the games Future to come back and at least check it out.
