Length MSQ from all the expansions - it is getting insane

Every time someone criticizes FFXIV, you come out and start trash talking other games, then you start to ramble about how FFXIV is a masterpiece and WoW is trash because of X or X

Stormpeaks: My gentle friend, ll be honest here and note that what I am saying is a repeat of what others have told Blizzard for a decade or more. I am not "trash talking", one does not to need to do so in order to highlight and note what others have observed over the years, that literally wiping out content for no other reason than FOMO is foolish..and extremely shortsighted.

The mistakes the Blizzard devs have made over the years are...no pun intended..legion. As far as story goes, Danuser's efforts have made him the laughingstock of many, not to mention the blatant LOTR ripoff that was N'zoth.

That new area ( forget the name..oh yeah Zereth Mortis...) was even more hilarious as Blizzard had actually found a way to timegate........how to talk to NPC's.

"Its water you can walk on"..was supposedly a "brand new feature never seen before"...Im sorry but you cant hand me a plate of McDonalds fries and call it beef wellington.

Their shortcomings, an unending list of mistakes, stuffups, coupled with a tone deaf approach has, I am sorry to say, served little else than to reduce their standing as an MMO. In all truth, Blizzards MMO is a pale reflection of what it once was, and in my honest estimation, needs its own Calamity. A full reset.

Or just tear it down and start over from scratch.

I call it as it is. I am not 'trash talking" when I say that what WOW was, is not what it is now, what is left is a pale imitation caused by what I would honestly state is sheer incompetence. The giants who created the game have left the playground...and it shows, painfully so.

Grow up please and accept that the game isnt perfect, nor is it a masterpiece.

It is my honest and open opinion, and mine alone, that neither game is perfect, nothing ever is. There is no such thing as a perfect game, let me be clear. That said, after having played WOW eight years, FF 14 since April 2019, picking the game up after making my original acct in 2015...FF 14, in my estimation, is the better of the two by several light years.

WOW's story, in my estimation, is a fragmented, jagged and utterly chaotic palimpsest, cobbled together with sellotape, Blu-tack and glue , done by an intern on their first day out of high school.

FF 14's story, by direct comparison,. is cogent, fluid, well executed..and above all..complete.

Something the modern World of Warcraft's narrative can no longer claim to be, by any reasonable means or metric.

Which is one of its strengths and why it's managed to appeal to a playerbase that wasn't just the MMO playerbase. This is not an MMO like other MMOs. We can either accept that and enjoy the unique aspects or complain that it's not like everything else out there and try to get it made into a carbon copy. I've seen enough of those MMOs. I'm happy to have a unique experience for once.

That is simply not true. LOTRO players also mainly play for the story, and generally consider the journey to levelcap to be more important than play at levelcap. TSW/SWL are also mainly about story.
Don't assume that what's true for WoW is true for any other MMO.

14 has a decent story by mmo standards, no one cared about wows story because they kept mucking it up, half the reason people disliked BFA was the fact the story was such a mess. people do care, esp when the game doesnt treat it as an after thought

someone forgot about burning crusade. WoW never had a great story, and noone cared until FF14 got big and noone everyone nitpicks apart every MMO story as if 90% of people cared for that lmao, they dont.

Pandaria was carried by the zone stories, the overarching story was mid

Legion was BC 2.0 with the same bullshit asspulls

Also note that not great != bad

WoWs story is serviceable and can be enjoyed, but i wouldnt call it a great story

Vel you and I both did loremaster (Though I did it before the cataclysm and you did it after) as such you and I saw more of the story than the average player. We are going to have a different view on the story as we saw far more of it.

We agree on this.

In much the same way that Ive done a lot of the sidequests as well as all the MSQ. The story was there, Pandaria's was one of the darkest I had ever seen. The scenes with the Pandaren wife who allowed the ugliness and horror of war pervert her into a Sha-possessed demon was one I will never forget.

"Pandas are all about funny light hearted morons" etc was so far off the mark it got disgusting.

We came to Pandaria, what we left behind was sickness, death, misery, destruction. There WAS an enemy in Pandaria. US. We were the enemy.

As far as the novels and books are concerned, THAT is again ANOTHER Blizzard failure, if you cant, or wont put it into the game, it is idiocy to expect people to shell out more for a plethora of books with lore and content the devs were too f.ing lazy to put into the damned game. Dont get me started on the rancid mess that was WOD...FF 14 manages to put all its story into the game without asking the customer to pay more $$$$ to understand what the hell is going on...and why.

This is what I despised about WOW now, its all about short term content, the actual legacy of the game be damned.

Legion was brilliant...BFA by comparison was exchanging a plate of well cooked pasta for a five day old decaying, regurgitated, half digested fish.
