VPN are also widely used by SEA players to purchase and play XIV.why are you bringing real world drama that has to do with tik tok into this game? also going to point out that vpn's are widely used to by pass country stuff. netflix is a huge example of that where people with vpn's will connect to other countries to watch different programs. in gaming. it might help with latency but still its bypassing your own country and hiding your ip as being from another country.
It is kind of a big deal to XIV players.
Tik Tok US isn't likely to ever shut down, it's owned by Microsoft and they have deep pockets with which to defend their interests. However, it is likely to make life difficult for people who use VPNs to access things like overseas TV, or for security purposes.
Nope. It doesn't mention Tik Tok at all. It is a general law saying the gov't can fine people for using VPNs. That's about it. So if they determine that watching Netflix with a VPN is illegal, this bill will allow it without going through more laws. They can just fine you for using a VPN. Hell, it could be used to ban VPNs completely so gov't can keep tracking you. (I know a little bit conspiracy but the point remains).I don't care because I don't use Social Media apps like TikTok. Social media does more harm than good in my opinion. It's distorted the meaning of "friend". It's led to unrealistic expectations in people. It's encouraged people to engage in extremely dangerous stunts not just to themselves but to others all the sake of getting a few views.
It was weird but I was reading an article about what "Zoomers" wished that "Boomers" could understand (I'm not a Boomer but I'm closer to Boomer than Zoomer). The most mentioned complaint was how much pressure and stress social media apps puts on Zoomer lives. My immediate thought when seeing that was "why on earth are you continuing to use something that you acknowledge is unhealthy for you and is completely optional?" There are other ways to stay in contact with family and actual friends.
So I'm honestly fine if it gets banned along with other social media apps. Any provisions related to banning VPNs will likely end up amended or deleted so that shouldn't be a worry to gamers.
Because it's trying to dramatize the VPN part of the legislation.
I haven't read it in detail but my understanding that is the legislation would make it unlawful to use a VPN to access TikTok if it is banned. I haven't heard anything saying that the legislation would ban use of VPNs in general.
i mean, netflix already battles vpn's as isNope. It doesn't mention Tik Tok at all. It is a general law saying the gov't can fine people for using VPNs. That's about it. So if they determine that watching Netflix with a VPN is illegal, this bill will allow it without going through more laws. They can just fine you for using a VPN. And will continue to grow as more and more stupid people with fragile egos do everything possible to make sure their children grow up stupider than they are so they can feel smart.
Wouldn't be surprised if that particular cycle is what actually ended a number of those past civilizations historians enjoy studying.
