Because social media in general was a mistake.
Also, my life is just fine, but thanks for the concern. Not a boomer, by the way.

As a Millennial I hate Tik Tok and social media in general. I think it is the cause of most of the polarization of at least US politics and actively pushes people into their like-minded groups that makes it worse.
So in your view, the way to fix that is to ban Tik Tok so that young people can't coordinate in any way while the older generations continue to have their echo chambers that have led to the polarization in the first place?
I think all social media is terrible for society as I said in my post. In a different post I said that the biggest problem with Tik Tok is that it is under the control of the CCP and we can't regulate it effectively, but we can regulate US tech companies. As for banning it, I don't really care. If it gets banned, something will fill the void by it no longer existing, as has been seen in other countries that banned Tik Tok. The real thing that needs to be fixed is that there is no data privacy from big tech and no one in government cares enough to pass a law to deal with that.
I'm a Millenial and dislike TikTok pretty strongly, not bc of politics but bc every other day is some dumb news story of kids surfing on cars or scaring old grandmas into cardiac arrest and death or eating highly toxic thing for "TikTok Challenges". Hey if someone has safe fun on there and finds themselves fun communities or a few more fake friends, and especially doesn't get themselves or other killed for "fun challenges", awesome and good for you!
Social media was nice in the early days but like everything, became overrun by idiots, trolls, bullies, and hate filled cesspools. I bailed on all of it years ago and my irl friendships and mental health improved dramatically. And I was barely ever on them to begin with!
There are other ways to find communities, like going out and meeting people in your real life local community.
Most social media isn't very good for holding actual conversations. A lot of people would prefer to talk with each other instead of simply at each other.
Boomers don't hate their lives. They just have different ideas of what they want their lives to be than you do.
There are plenty of other social media platforms out there for people to switch to. Congress is very unlikely to go after any that are based in the US or its allies. The focus on TikTok is because of its alleged use by China for espionage and gathering data on the US.
The other aspect is because Tik Tok is a Chinese company (which means it is beholden to the CCP) there is no effective way for government to regulate it like they could do with US based companies. That being said, government is so deep in the pockets of big tech that they don't regulate them anyway so...
